“good hotel but bad location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2013

Well the room wasnt clean at all, the bedsheets were not fresh, toilet was dirty, after the long journey we had to again wait for them to fix the room. The hotel was quite nice.. the hotel has got 14 rooms, they all seemed very nice, we were alloted in a room with a good view of the mountains... the only challenge was the eccess to the hotel.... it had a very narrow line that goes all the way to the hotel.. at frist we doubt if the car will be able enter in the lane, but luckily it did.. but any bigger vehical wont. And u abusolutely need a car or vehical to take u to the hotel with the laggage coz it's quite a distance from the mall road.
Hotel is great.. but yes it's over priced!!

Room Tip: Room on the first floor to the end

Firstly, the approach: While the hotel is quiet scenically located, the approach road is horrible: extremely narrow and steep. We missed its turn completely, and went further ahead. We just could not fit our car (Honda) in the tiny approach lane, and it had to be taken in by the expert driver at the hotel, who also managed to scratch it a bit.

Secondly the staff: Exceptionally helpful, polite and courteous. They were helpful in planning our trip.. recommend places which we should and should not visit. We had a baby with us, and they prepared good food for her also, which was off the menu. The room service was prompt and fast. Due to low occupancy when we went, they even upgraded our room. It was the staff mostly which made the stay pleasant.

Thirdly, the facilities: The rooms are decorated well and have all amenities, but the bathrooms need to be warmed up a bit. Unnecessarily large and stone cold, unlike the rooms, which are nice and warm. Heaters are provided in winters, which is sufficient. Unfortunately, the walls and floors are thin, so its better to stay on the 1st floor (there are only 2 floors: ground and 1st). We stayed on the ground floor (there is just 1 room on the G-floor), and were woken up by the kids who were living in the room above ours. Also, I found the water heater capacity a little less, which posed a problem in bitter cold: one bucket, and then you need to wait till the heater reheats up again.

Lastly, food: Good, but tad bit expensive. Also, we went just before the Christmas rush, and there was not much crowd. So the tandoor was off, and we had to do with tava rotis and paranthas. No tandoori chicken, kababs etc throughout our stay, even though it was on the menu. But the food is served hot and right on time, and whatever is prepared is delicious.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 1st floor which are valley facing.

I went to this hotel in november (off season) and to be frank- found that all rooms were named on some foreigner's name, was kind of creepy. There was no communication by the hotel that - there is no other way but to walk down DUGGAL VILLA road- which i figured out after speaking to 5 Rikshaw wala's there, amazingly everyone put forward a confused look when i mentioned the name of this place, nobody had any idea where it was. After 25 minutes of wasting time, money and walking with all the luggage around, we finally found a small road declining towards a shady area, trust me the first impressions of this place are not so good, i even called the hotel reception thrice but was never told the right way or no pick was arranged too. Rolling down all the baggage for almost 500 mtrs Zig Zag, i reached the place. I had even thought of not staying there after looking at the place, but then i was already 500 mtrs downhill , with all that luggage had no courage to go on a hill climb again. After that - since it was off season, we had to walk up with no shuttle service and DRIVER's on lunch/leave/sleeping kind of a scenario had to walk up and down everytime. The view from room 204 is DUGGAL VILLA & some Drain water until the so called HIMALAYAN view is covered with SNOW.Trust me - not really worth it - atleast in an off season.

Hi Friends,

We stayed at this place for 3 nights in Oct '12 and expectedly had a wonderful experience. It did not seem like a typical hotel but a home away from home. The pros and cons below :

Pros

1) Service Staff - Always on their toes, ever ready to help, dedicated
2) Hotel location - Just off mall road and still in a very quiet location with great valley views
3) The Room sizes were quite large. Bathrooms are larger in some rooms. Olden style but all modern amenities available
4) Brillant Food
5) Free shuttle to mall road - Very useful. Available through the day
6) Preset room heaters - Was a Must and it made the stay comfortable
7) Lovely view from the rooms. Ice capped mountains visible on a clear day. Loved the peaceful environment

Cons

1) Some people might not like this set-up as it does not give you a "Hotel feel".
2) Not much activities apart from the pool table/library
3) A little pricy given that similar category hotels are quite reasonable

I must highlight the services of Mr.Pyare Singh. Treated us like family members. Has a "Yes" to everything. One of the reasons behind the popularity/success of this hotel.
You have to stay here if in mussorrie.

Happy Travelling,
Gautam

Tip of the Review :

1) Dont miss a meal at Chick Chocolate on mall road (Picture palace end)
2) A long evening walk down Camel's back Road is a must. Nature at its best.

Room Tip: Its a unique hotel as it seems no two rooms are the same. I stayed at Fanny Parks (205) initially wh...

As the other reviewers have noted, this is a wonderful place. Nicely restored, clean, well-located, with an outstanding staff. I used the meal plan and the food is really wonderful. It is a hike up to town but they have a good shuttle service that is always ready. Two notes: 1) Most of these reviewers are from India. But if you have to do this in English, it can hard occasionally but not impossible. The staff try really hard to understand. If you're stuck, ask for the operations mgr. He's fluent and a great help. 2) Ask for a room at the far north end of the hall on the second floor facing the mountains. Avoid 201 (my rm) as it is over the guard house and you'll hear him and the cars on the outside road a lot. I liked Mussoorie a lot. I came for a weekend break from work in Delhi. Walk the Camel Back road every morning after breakfast and skip the kitsch on Mall Road. Stop at the overlook with tiny cafe half way along. Sit and sip coffee, become friends with the couple who own it and look north at the Himalayas. They'll bring out a map and interpret everything to you. They are the best.

This is one of the fine heritage hotels in Mussoorie. Staff were very polite and courteous. Approach to the hotel is a bit kind of crazy but other than that everything was perfect. The view from the corner room (don't remember the room number) was awesome...Highly recommended hotel!!
