Went to Mussoorie recently ( 22nd Dec. to be exact ) on a short trip. Since we were visitng after 2 years , as always looked up Trip advisor ratings and as this hotel had no. 1 ranking , made the prior reservation on line. Situated very close to Company Gardens , the location is great , away from the busy mall and offered great views . However , the hotel turned out to disappointing in other ways. The common areas icluding the restaurant were very cold , no arrangements for heating . Fireplaces were in place but no provisons for lighting it. Bathrooms were chilling cold ! The interiors of the rooms are not preoperly planned .The whole place was quite dead in the evening and we were happy to check out of the hotel next morning at the earliest. Food though was very good and no complaints on this aspect ! Personally I will not rate it as no. 1 or even close to it . highly overpriced for the facilites it offered . We have stayed several times before at Claridges Nabha and think that's a much better place to stay . Very tempted to stay at Rokeby Manor in Landaur ( which we visited for lunch ) in our next trip and appeared to be a fabulous place to stay !

- The Amber Vermont Estate is a boutique retreat in the Himalayas. Vermont Estate was originally built in the latter half of the 19th century by a Britisher and is one of the oldest estates in the Himalayan town of Mussoorie. It has been refurbished to retain the atmosphere of a traditional English cottage with the addition of modern amenities. The property is located in one of the most beautiful areas of Mussoorie. The location, and the mix of modern comfort, old English charm and personalized service make The Amber Vermont Estate a treasure in Mussoorie. In the early 1800's, Vermont Estate was part of a grand estate called Logie Estate owned by the well-known Dr. Hugh Falconer. Dr. Falconer was a Scottish geologist, botanist, and paleontologist. He was the first to discover the remains of fossil mammals in the Siwalik Hills of India.
