Sheetal Regency Hotel
Ranked #15 of 27 Hotels in Mathura

This hotel gave us a comfortable night's accommodation - if we were careful not to open curtains and see the mountain of rubbish outside and the people going to the toilet on the hillside (but hey, these are sights in India anyway). Security was a problem though as the window could not be shut properly and frequently strange men were walking past the window on the outside verandah.
Food in the restaurant was good. The hotel is conveniently located to the Khrishna Temple, but there is very little else to do in Mathura - we were fortunate it was "Colours Festival" at the time, so the Temple has plenty going on

We, 7 group of family members went to India for hindu pilgrim to visit several religious cities in North India. We only stayed one evening in February 2012 for transit before heading to other cities. First impression was "oh no this will be a nightmare" but my thought was not correct. Eventhough the rooms were far from luxury but I found the three out of four rooms we got were spacious, clean and comfortable, except for the doors may need little paint to cover scratches. From our travel agency in New Dehli, we got 4 spacious nice rooms, three were clean and comfortable, but one room was so smelly even it had strong smelt of urine, like people urinated in the room and had never been cleaned up properly. We coming from a tropical country, my 75 and 77 old parents had problem with little bit chilling weather, thanks God this room hotel got a heater which was like 70's old model heater, we do not complained about the heater because it worked fine.

Compare to other cities we visited like Haridwar, Rishikesh, Kuruksethra, Agra, New Dehli, etc, people in this city seems very tense and no smile and no friendliness. We also felt the same tense in the way this hotel hotel served us.

The breakfast was very basic, no impression of the incredible Indian food from only simple bread, jams and the taste of coffee or tea was not impressive, not the right taste of coffee and tea. For the standard of 3 stars hotel, it should impress the guess by the standard of 3 stars breakfast.

But overall, compare to other hotel in similar type of cities I visited, I recommend this hotel to stay in Mathura.

The entrance suggest a lot more than they deliver. It is spacious and airy, very clean and you are greeted with iced water.
However the rooms are tired and run down, cleanliness acceptable but the bathroom could do with a bit of a scrub . Our room was at the side and dark and dingy.
The restaurant was fine and the food was good .
Staff were unwilling to find us any taxis or to offer any advise as to where to go.

Room Tip: ask for the luxury room!

The closest decent hotel to the Main Krishna temple of Madura, it does seem a premium hotel from the outside.

Cons:
Hotel Sheetal is an old property that begs renovation. The pipe fittings were of the 70s, the aged air conditioning (which we had trouble operating), the dampness in the room & the flooring and the old bedsheets might put down a few. But for devotees who are there just for a night or two, Sheetal would be just fine. For the rest, there are very good hotels in Vrindavan, which is 15min drive away.

Pros: The food is very good & South Indian delicacies are available.

This hotel is quite basic and definately does not deserve the 3 star hotel rating. We had two luxury rooms booked at the hotel for two days, through a travel agent and when we reached there after a long drive from Delhi around 2.30 pm we were asked to wait as the rooms were'nt ready. After about 15 minutes we were allotted one super deluxe room (category lower than luxury room) which we found could not be locked as the key had been broken. and the manager was not aware of. At that time we brought it to their notice that they had to give us the luxury room. The executive manager at the front desk had no clue about the rooms reservations etc and just cooly asked to relax and that the rooms would be ready. In the meantime we had lunch at their restraurant. Luckily the food was freshly made, good and was served piping hot. After lunch we still had been alloted the rooms and the manager gave the same reply that we just relax (I wondered where we could do that). Finally the duty manager arrived on the scene after lunch and assured us that the rooms would now be ready. we were alloted the two luxury rooms at about 4.30 pm.
The rooms were hardly luxury . They were very simmilar to the lower category only Also slightly larger and that they had a fridge. Also the remote of the TV in one room was not working. As also the airconditioner was so noisy that it had be switched of in the middle of the night. The one plus point was that the beds were very comforatble for a restful nights sleep.
The other plus point was the room service as well as the restaurant was quite good as was the food. It was made as per order so was quite fresh. The hotel had a good lobby area too and it is in close proximity to the Krishna janmabhoomi Temple.
On the whole , the hotel was worth the price but its ok to stay there for one night or in transit. It is also quite noisy as they had some other functions happening there . Definately not a place to chill and relax.

A really nice hotel and also a treat after roughing it. I stayed in a room overlooking the pool with views to the city. They have a travel desk and bookstore in the lobby.it's location was really nice.
