“A Beautiful Time at Palace Surya”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2012

This gem of a hotel is really an oasis of peace and quiet in a bustling and busy city. The staff was incredibly accommodating, friendly and also very timely with every request. They did everything with a smile! The spa was one of the best I've ever been too! I really enjoyed the authenticity and genuineness of each person when receiving a service. These spa pros were so friendly and knowledgeable that I went twice and got several services done each time. It was relaxing, soothing, and a fun experience. I really enjoyed the ladies at the spa's company while getting my mani and pedi done along with a series of facials and massages. The wi-fi was easily accessible and the shopping at the stores was great for gifts and mailing postcards back home. Our favorite bar was the Mangi Ferra which provided awesome cocktails and great food. The food was some of the best Indian food I've ever had! Highly recommend this for your stay in Varanasi. The staff, the beautiful renovated palace, the service, the food, and spa make this truly a spectacular place to stay. Can't wait for my next trip to Varanasi!

We went to India not knowing what to expect, Hotel Surya made the stay enjoyable, fun and relaxing. The food and service was amazing, they are all very accommodating and there to assist you. The Mango Tree restaurant was one of our favorite places to hang out, and always a great place to find a cold beverage after a long day of exploring the city. Ask for Ravi! He will take care of you. The Spa was a great experience too. Overall, would suggest Hotel Surya for any of my family and friends.

Hotel Surya is an excellent choice for accommodation if you plan on traveling to Varanasi. The palace has been remodeled to highlight it's historic architecture , yet incorporates all the modern ammenities one could ask for. There is a wonderful spa on sight, a great little bar to grab an evening cocktail in, and a cool and casual bohemian lounge perfect for relaxing with a book or connecting with friends and family from home using the hotel's wi-fi. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, with some of the best service we received while traveling in India. Best of all, the food was outstanding... I would highly recommend this hotel!

A nice refuge from the hustle and bustle of Varanasi. The staff is so very friendly and accommodating. The pool and rooms are well-maintained and clean. The spa is a welcome treat and the restaurant has some nice selections.

Having never travelled in India before I did not know what to expect but I must say that this trip was an experience of a lifetime!!!Everyone at the Hotel Surya could not have been nicer, including the owner , Mr. Singh.
The rooms were very nice, clean they all overlooked the courtyard. I especially enjoyed the vegetarian breakfasts and LOVED the baked beans, in particular!
Please do yourselves a favor and visit Spa Aarna....for a massage and facial...ask for Munish!

We stayed at this hotel in late January 2012. The hotel was full with a convention and a wedding so our room was in the Guest House. The room was nice but it obviously isn't regularly used for guests because there was a lot of items being stored there. The Guest House building was under renovation so they probably hadn't intended to use the rooms. Anyway, that was fine and the room was large and clean.

The Canton restaurant was good and reasonably priced. They really push you towards the buffet for breakfast to the point of almost ignoring you when you want to order off the menu but patience always wins out and eventually someone will take your order! I had a massage at the Spa and it was okay. Not the best massage ever but good considering the cost. The hotel is a long way from the Varanasi attractions. It cost about 100 rupees for a "tut tut" down to the ghats and takes about 30 minutes. We took a rickshaw one time and that took almost an hour.

Overall, the hotel was good and clean. The food was excellent and the service was good.

Two and three story buildings surround a large well tendered garden .The rooms are a decent size and have heating as well as air -conditioning.

Reception is efficient and the friendly Front office Mgr, Mr T.N.Singh,arranged the rooms for our group all close together as we had requested.

Buffet Breakfast is mostly Indian which suits us fine as we;re very fond of Indian food. The only negative: Hot water is frequently unavailable.

We had our evening meals in the Old City at Annapurna restaurant. Almost all the clients were locals. Locals know where to eat best and we enormously enjoyed South Indian Thalis,Dosa ,Dahi, etc.
Our transport was again ,and as usual ,very efficiently arranged by Ajay of ACME TOURS INDIA (sachin@acmetours.com).The vehicles were modern, clean and punctual and the drivers spoke quite enough English to know where we wanted to go and at what time.
