I have been coming back Sita guest house for years. Whenever I came to Varanasi I stay here.
It's close to main ghat and you can see Ganga from roof top and room and price is decent.
They have great great hot water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You really appreciate this hotel!!!!
The people who work here are so friendly and kind. If you need anything you can ask here. Money exchange, boat, train ticket, bus, etc....

I was travelling with another female friend for 4 days. We booked Sita Guest House online since we were told that nothing would be available. So we booked online. This was the first problem

If you can help it, DON'T BOOK ONLINE with their Pune based online system since this charges a EXTRA premium of Rs. 400 (per day).

The room was ready and the porters were nice in the beginning. We were told that we had been "upgraded" which meant we were placed on the 4th floor where EVERY OTHER room except ours was under construction. This meant that from 7:30 to about 4:00 there was continuous sound of construction RIGHT outside our room.

They do have a restaurant upstairs but the food is entirely passable. The views however, are superb.

On the 2nd day at dinner we ended up having a conversation with one of the porters who made us EXTREMELY uncomfortable. We mentioned it to the owner who took action immediately and mentioned that he had let the concerned porter go.

There was NO heater even though everything was freezing cold. Also, UP experiences 8 hour power cuts which means that everything ran on generator and no electrical outlets in the room worked for most of the day. We're writers and needed our laptops which we were unable to use due to this. They didn't bother to refill even basic drinking water in our room from day to day. Internet, which was supposed to be in EVERY room was not available. The phone line to reception downstairs didn't work either.

On the LAST night that we spent in the room, we awoke at 3:00 a.m. to hear the EXTREMELY loud and drunken voices of the porters who were sitting on the 4th floor, where there was only 1 room occupied by 2 girls. Since the phone didn't work, all we could do was make sure the door was shut nice and tight.

Though the view is breathtaking. And the location of the place is perfect. The owner seemed nice enough but on many levels I felt a bit cheated and mistreated.

Room Tip: Get a river facing room on the higher floors if you can.

This hotel has a great location, just in front of the Ganges, in the middle of the Ghats, so you can easily reach any location on foot. The sunset ceremony is celebrated just few steps from the hotel.

Every room has a (minimalistic) balcony from which you can see the river. The rooms are quite essential and not very wide, they have private bathrooms but hot water comes out of the shower only sometimes and not continuously.

There is a roof-top restaurant from which you can have good and safe food, at reasonable prices, having a nice see of the river.

Room rates are quite high (1500 rupees per night is an exaggeration according to me) but they can be worth of, given the postion. They offer a paid pickup service from the airport which is not cheap (800 rupees) but it's worth of, since it is very hard to find the hotel when you arrive in Varanasi, because there are very narrow and intricate alleys to pass for getting to the hotel.

There is free wifi, only in the lounge.

For a reasonable price (600 rupees) they have organized for us a Varanasi sightseeing journey both by tuk tuk and on foot. During the walk, we were guided by one of the hotel's staff person, which has been the sole and only very nice Indian whom we have met during our journey. He has explained well the story of the town and has responded to any question we had about the city, traditions and Indian way of living. This was very very pleasant.

It is very hard to sleep: given that you'll be staying near the river, rites start about at 3 a.m. in the night, you will hear dogs barking during the whole night, and there are monkeys which sometime come to your window and start crying and tapping at it.

Above all, I would recommend this facility!

Let's start with the positive. The views from Sita Guest House are amazing. Because the hotel juts out a little it gets great views not just out at the Ganges but also along either side. The ghat is quiet and scenic.

But... The everything else at the hotel is phoney. The photo shows a blue and white heritage building. The reality is a modern facade built illegally and painted in peach and pink with nasty new windows. When we stayed, the Government came round with lump hammers to knock out some of the illegal brickwork, causing enormous noise and ruining one of our days at the hotel.

We had booked a super deluxe room but were offered an upgrade to the Maharaja Room for our stay. We asked how much and were told R2500. After seeing the room, which had good views on two sides we agreed.

The Maharaja is obviously a gentleman who travelled everywhere with his own soap, shampoo and loo paper. He probably also brought his own blankets to supplement the meagre offerings on the rock hard bed. He would also have been well advised to bring his own heater. On the first evening we said the room was cold and asked for a heater. We were told that there wasn't one. At breakfast the next day, other guests said they had heaters so we asked again and were promised one later in the day. We asked again at lunchtime. We asked again at 5.30pm and were told that it required an electrician to install it. Eventually, at 7pm as we sat shivering, someone delivered a heater and took the plug off the air conditioner to fix it onto the heater.

Oh, and as well as being cold, our room was dirty, had broken blinds, exposed wiring and a colony of ants. The rest of the hotel looked like a building site with exposed concrete and unfinished surfaces everywhere.

We were told that our room rate included complimentary breakfast. After pitching up at the restaurant the next morning at 7am, we were told breakfast would be served in ten minutes. Ten minutes went on past 8am and then we were told the only option was omelette and bread. When we then heard the next table ordering banana pancakes we asked why we had to have omelette. At this point the language barrier became insurmountable. However, language skills returned the next day sufficient for us to be asked to pay for beer which we had allegedly not paid for the night before. The beer had accompanied a particularly vile meal but we had paid our bill in full and without question. Since it was not itemised - just a number shown on a calculator, we had assumed it to be correct - it looked right. I suspect this was just a scam.

On checking out, we paid what we owed and were told that the R2500 for the upgrade was per night. That was another R2500. We objected and said we had been clear that this was the total additional price but the owner would not be moved and got very nasty and rude. He even gave us his website address which he said showed that he was simply charging us the rack rate for the room. This would have been absurd even had it been true - if we had wanted the room for the rack rate we would have booked it. But it turned out the difference between a super deluxe room and the Maharaja room was only supposed to be R2000 - so that's a cool R1000 we were ripped off even if the misunderstanding had been honest. Which it wasn't.

This truly is a grotty guesthouse which just sees guests as walking wallets. Please do yourself a favour and find one of the much nicer and equally priced guest houses strung out along the river front in Varanasi.

Just spent six nights at this guest house - where to begin? It is definitely more expensive than some other places that are set back off the river but... I still feel this hotel was worth the money because: The view is superb - and if you come to Varanasi it is all about the view of the river. No one spends much time sitting in the hotel room anyway - so I was not after luxury.

The room on the positive side has: great firm comfortable matteresses, a balcony, a private bathroom, felt very safe and secure there with my personal belongings, it was quiet, Wi FI is fast but only offered in the lounge/reception area. They also book trains for a small fee.

On the negative side, there was no heating at the time we stayed and December is freezing cold in Varanasi, but they did give us very warm clean blankets so it was ok. The shower worked ...occasionally but was not very warm.

The restaurant looks really drab but... the food is actually fantastic and safe.

The staff (all 30 of them- sometimes it is hard to tell who does what - but they are all nice) were all really helpful. Try to talk to Amid, he is great and organises fantastic trecks in Napal. Dada will take you on a personal tour of Varanais and surrounds - he is very knowlagable and the price of 2000 rupees sounds exspensive but: you get a whole day of really good sight seeing including Sarnath and other temples all in luxury vechcle.

In the end - Sita guest house is a really good option but not if you are seeking luxury. I would stay there again,

It was my second visit to Varanasi.

The first night,I had a big ploblemーーthough I reserved a room in Palace on steps 2 months ago, they said all the rooms were fulfilled. And they showed me a dirty poor room of their another hotel,Hare Rama.
I am not young ,It was impossible for me to spend even one night in such a room like a jail

I was all alone, very angry ,tired and confused.

As I did'nt want to take dinner at the restaurant of Palace on steps, I went the next hotel , Sita guest house.

It was the first day of the festival Diwari,so Varanasi had many tourists. I was not sure to find good hotel by myself...

The stuff iof the rooftop restaurant looked kind and clever, I talked him my problem and asked him if his hotel had a comfortable room for me.
He ran downstares immediately, to taled with his both, and came back in 5 minutes! It is a miracle in India, you know.

He said "we have a Maharaja room with bathroom and balconies ,
"but only for tonight as we have a guest who booked this room alreadyf"

The room chage was 2500 rupees. We discussed for 3minutes, and he ran downstairs again and came back in 5 minutes!

We agreed among ourselves. It means room charge was 2000 rubies except tax.
The tax was 150 rubies.

The room was river view, with ac, tv, wifi.
Perfect!

This stuff's name is Ami. He is very good at English, polite and moderate.

The next day, he guided me to the temples that Indian people used to go .He has the deep knowledge about Hinduism and Indian culture.
He also helped me to find good hotel for my rest days. Good and cheaper hotel, I say.
If you are planning to visit Varanasi, I advice you Sita G.H.
You will see wonderful view of Ganga, you will find nice guie called Ami.

To Dashashwamed ghat, 5,6 minutes on foot.
The rooftop restaurant is average.

.

Room Tip: To request a room with wide bathroom.

Location was ok but around it there many other guesthouses.
The only and very good thing about this guesthouse was the restaurant, food was amazing and very cheap, and the staff was nice.
Prices are extremely high generally for the conditions, it was very dirty.
Dada, the old man, was very rude, he kept asking for money for everything and would charge way too much. He was nice and friendly at the beginning but became really harsh when he realized we weren't rich and naive.
The atmosphere was always negative, we felt like we could not wait to leave!
Very bad experience, I would not recommend it. The relation price/quality is a total rip-off!

Room Tip: 1500-2000 rupees per room per night are not worth this place
