I'm currently staying here and will never book with this tour operator (Legends and Palaces) because of this place. The building is old and worn, the bar is dusty through lack of use and the Club Lounge is just a joke. They advertise wireless internet, which doesn't exist except in the Club Lounge, which is a desolate place with no staff, drinks or food available. They have two/three restaurants apparently offering the same buffet and just getting in is hard as they were booked for tour groups, but both had mostly empty tables when we checked. It is miles from any sign of civilisation except for a vaunted mall next door that has a KFC and Pizza Hut - we came to India for that? Avoid this place at all costs !!

Varanasi is the most Indian of India's cities and being able to retreat to this oasis of calm is a relief from the constant hooting of horns on the busy streets.

We arrived at 22:30 after a long and late running train journey and were not pleased to find that everything shut down at 23:00.

That said, the room was comfortable and provided everything we needed.

My only disappointment was the charge for wifi. Why do hotels do this?

We stayed here at the onset and end of a long road trip. Both the stays were were for two nights. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The bathrooms especially the room we were in on our return seemed cramped ! The room service was prompt and the food is quite decent. We had a self driven car and took over an hour to locate the place from the toll booth as you enter Varanasi from the National Highway! The roads are non existent in parts! The area around this hotel is quite clean and the roads good, this being a cantonment area. The Ghats etc. are pretty close and can be done in auto rickshaws which are available right outside the hotel on the main road. Make sure to negotiate the rates or at least check the routes and rates with the hotel staff before venturing out. There is a Habib's Salon within the hotel premises and the routine services are pretty good. Once you reach the hotel, the area is quiet and peaceful. The staff is friendly and helpful. We were however requested to vacate the room after a night and move to an upper floor as the floor was going through some renovation the next morning. After a 12 hour road journey we of course declined the request. The renovation could not have been an impulse decision and we should have been informed right at the time of check in. We of course had to tip toe our way all along the corridor , through varnish odor and loud construction workers to reach the elevator !!!

We reached Varanasi around noon and the hotel is only about 15 mins from the railway station. It is away from the main city and hence very quite. Anyways, the city is not very far and the auto guys will drop you at your destination for 100-150 iNR (be sure to bargain).
We had a club room on the 5th floor with club lounge facilities (which we never availed off). The room was good, it was pool facing, maybe a slightly bigger room could have done. We also wanted an extra cot, so that filled the room. The bathroom was vey big with a nice tub and good toiletries.
They had 3 restaurants one which served buffet, where we had breakfast, one Chinese and the third Indian. The food was excellent in all the three restaurants. Be sure to try the galouti kebab at the Indian restaurant, mouth melting hmm.... On Sunday we also tried the poolside bbque which had unlimited kebabs and a live salad and pasta counter plus the buffet. Overall a very sumptuous meal.
The service was very quick, if we needed anything in the room, it was given quite fast. There was a cd player in the room and the kids freaked out since they could watch their favourite barbie and Tom and jerry movies.
A little tiff on the last day during the check-out was unpleasant but was sorted out by the manager.
Overall, I would rate it as a very good hotel, good room, stay, service and food.

The hotel is rather obscurely situated along a drive near a shopping mall. It is some distance from the city centre - as are most of the better tourist hotels in Varanasi. To get local taxis and other transport you have to walk up the entrance drive to the main road where transport of all sorts lurks in wait. The hotel's travel desk can arrange taxis and guides, which are not cheap but of a high standard. The travel desk works well and was particularly helpful in helping to sort of my travel arrangements with the exasperating Jet Airways when I had to change my itinerary at short notice. The hotel is a bog standard tourist hotel, popular with tour groups, and well up to its star rating. The restaurant's buffet is a bit boring at dinner and a bit limited at breakfast.

Stayed here for three days on tour of India and it was an excellent base for exploring this strange but very special city. We were here at festival time and the city was very busy, but you can get a tuk-tuk outside the hotel to take you as near as possible to the river.

Hotel room and facilities are really comfortable, maybe a little outdated but not complaining at all. Meals are good too, with plenty of choice for all tastes.

What really upset me was that a member of staff tried to 'diddle' me when I changed money in the hotel. I was given no receipt and when I checked the rupees I had received it was less than I expected. I went back and the extra was handed over with a shrug and no comment. I expect they thought that I was a stupid foreign tourist who would not check. The duty manager was sitting nearby and didn't say a word, so maybe it was an accepted scam.

So this soured the stay here for me. I liked the hotel, so if your stay there, check everything, and demand a receipt if you change money!

Hotel looks old but clean, nice big room and bath.
Mattress was old and lumpy, maybe time for new ones.
Check in was easy and fast with polite and friendly staff.
Location was good, only a few minutes away from train station by Rickshaw, and 30 minutes from airport (we flew) by taxi.
Very quiet, nice hotel but bit of way from Ganga river and markets.
There is a small mall right near hotel and if you get tired of eating Indian food, you can go there and grab a McDonalds chicken sandwich and there is also a Pizza Hut inside the mall too.
Breakfast spread was good but not the best.
Interestingly they have live Dosa station where they serve breaskfast, if you order one, they will make you a nice fresh one right there.
if you don't mind grabbing a Rickshaw to travel here and there from hotel, you will have very quiet good nights sleep in crazy Varanasi.
