“Great location and great view!”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

We ate most of our meals on the rooftop restaurant - you can't beat those views! It was a cool place with a lot of personality and a good value for the cheap price. Our only complaint was the noise - we were on the ground floor and you could hear everything in the courtyard. We enjoyed our stay though and i'll go back if I ever find myself in Varanasi again!

I think you can tell the quality of a place by 1) the amount of repeat customers & 2) how clean the place is. Judging by how many people stay here year after year, and how spotless this place is... I think it's a very good indicator of the quality. I think Ganpati Guest House is Excellent.
My bedroom was the best room i've ever stayed at- beautiful blue walls with carved wooden shutters and a priceless view over the Ganges as the sun rises. I could lie in bed and just watch the Ganges all day. Fabulous value at 700R.
Staff are great, friendly, accommodating; the place is spotless and being constantly cleaned.
And I met people who come back here time and time again. As will I. Thankyou Ganpati for a great stay in Varanasi.

Room Tip: Ganges view!!!

This was my second time in Varanasi and the second time I stayed at Ganpati Guest House. You can tell alot about a place when something goes wrong and how it was resolved. There was a miscommunication with the booking I made a month earlier and somehow I didn't have a room on the day I arrived into Varanasi. Due to two major festivals going on (Maha Kumbh Mela and Shiva Ratri), there was no availability for the first two nights of me stay. However, Ganpati Guest House was able to give my husband and I a room for the last two nights of our stay. And, as always, it was fully professional from the start to the finish. This year, the staff members who help with the luggage from the main road to the guest house are in bright orange uniforms, making it easier to keep an eye on them in all the business that is Varanasi.

I would definitely recommend Ganpati Guest House. They know what the Western traveler needs and go above and beyond to provide it. The staff are professional, knowledgable, polite and friendly.

Only drawbacks were the noise level in some of the rooms, (bring a good set of ear plugs and be aware that Varanasi is full on with noise pretty much all of the time); another thing is that the airport drop-off car could be a bit closer along the main road than at the parking lot, because it is a long walk. But, perhaps it was different this year since the road was so full of pilgrims.

Otherwise, I look forward to staying at Ganpati Guest House again and again!

Room Tip: Book early and be sure to confirm!

Without doubt the Ganpati has a brilliant location, right on the ghats and pretty much in the middle so you could wander left towards the main burning ghats and beyond or right towards the main bathing ghats and smaller burning ghat. As others have already commented the views from the rooftop restaurant are fantastic. The menu was varied and the meals were good value for money. The downside of the open rooftop restaurant was if it rained - which it did! It resulted in too many people trying to find tables on the sheltered balconies etc which were still fairly exposed! The management need to address this really. Having said that the staff made stirling efforts to accommodate and serve everyone in very difficult conditions!
We were unable to get rooms in the main guesthouse so were in the homestay or annexe just back from the ghats. It was only a very short walk and we were able to use all the facilities of the main guesthouse. Our room was clean, large and spacious with a separate sitting area although there was loud music from two nearby temples - but this all ceased by 10pm so not a problem.
Overall the Ganpati was great value for money in a prime location and we spent three brilliant days soaking up the fantastic atmosphere of the ghats!

Room Tip: Book ahead if you can, if you want to stay in the main guesthouse.

Ganpati Guest House is everything that everyone raves about! Room 12 is absolutely amazing. It has a lovely private balcony, with a view south on the Ganges, is beautifully decorated, and has a nice bathroom. If you can afford it, splurge for this room. You will not regret it.

The rooftop restaurant is all vegetarian and terrific. We enjoyed both breakfasts and dinners there. The food was great, and the service was always with a smile and good humor. The only improvement I would suggest is to be able to charge meals to the room. Having to pay directly for each meal was inconvenient and inconsistent with other hotels.

As others have said, Ganpati Guest House is located perfectly for a stay in Varanasi. We were met at the taxi stand and led (by the “Ganpati boys”, dressed in orange) on a 10-15 minute walk through the maze that is Varanasi to get to Ganpati. Ganpati has several areas besides the rooms to congregate: a lovely courtyard on the lower/reception level, the rooftop restaurant, and other tables situated along the shared balcony.
I cannot imagine a better place to stay in Varanasi than right on the ghats and at Ganpati Guest House.

We stayed in the Ganpati Home - around the corner from the Ganpati guest house. Overall, it was a lovely stay, good value for the price.

The room was equipped with air-conditioning, heating, ceiling fan. Although the room was a bit cold in the winter, they had wonderfully warm blankets to hunker in to. And the bathroom was squeaky clean.

The staff was extremely kind, knowledgeable, with good advice for touring.

The only complaints would be that the wi-fi signal did not reach into our room, the hot water was not constant, and the alley behind our room was active with noisy dogs and neighbors.

This was a great guesthouse on the banks of the Ganges. Our room had a great view. It was roomy, clean and comfortable. The rooftop restaurant was a terrific place to start the day or to chillout during dinner. The staff are really helpful and friendly. They provided pick-up from the airport and staff help carry your luggage through the narrow laneways where taxis are not able to travel. I would thoroughly recommend Ganpati Guest House as a place to stay in Varanasi.

Room Tip: We had a room with a private balcony and loved it.

The history of Ganpati Guest House: The Ganpati is located at the east end of the Mother Ganges in Varanasi, makes its presence known throughout the riverbanks not only by shining the world's oldest culture as well as oldest city. A city of light...but also by offering cutting-edge restaurants, renowned facilities, amazing view and comfortable accommodations. This 3-story Redstone pyramid was built in 1905 on the river Ganges, contains so many amenities on such an enormous scale that it's becomes practically amazing vacation. Spacious rooms surrounded by the plants, which boasts your staying, dining and entertainment. The Garden, at more than 1000 square feet, is one of Varanasi's oldest existing buildings and rarely available, offering a tranquil sitting, an array of nice music, a rack of books nearby.
