By following other Trip Advisor members, we stayed at the Ganpati Guest house, and paid a bit extra to get one of the rooms that overlooks the Gange River. It was well worth the extra charge. The folks at Ganpati could not have been more friendly, and everything from the pick-up and drop off at the train station, to their laundry service were everything we could ask for. We enjoyed their rooftop restaurant as well, and the one meal we had there was quite satisfactory.
Definitely would stay there again, and again.....

Ganpati Guest house have a great location.... the view of the ganga is superb.... the restaurant at rooftop is excellent with great ambient and excellent food!!! The room was big and clean.... the shower excellent!! The only incovenient that you have to walk a long way carring your bag to get at the hotel.... I reserved a pick up at airport with the hotel but the car left you in a a street a little bit futher and a person will conduct you to the hotel... so th3e pick up is expensive for you to have to carry your lugagge a long way....

I thought Ganpati guest house was a real winner on two counts and unreservedly recommend a stay. The rooftop restaurant/bar with a breathtaking view over the Ganges has to be seen to be believed and secondly the customer service is 100 percent helpful with the manager having his finger on the pulse of all travel options.

The location couldn't be better, right in the middle of things and on the Ganges River. The rooms are colorful and clean. The food at the roof top restaurant is varied and delicious. There are 70 steep steps from the river up to the Guest House entrance. It's quite a trek. The courtyard is lovely with a comfy chair swing. It's a beautiful place to read the daily newspaper they put out. The staff is helpful. They change money. They have tours and boat trips available. A great place to stay. It's the calm in the midst of chaos.

Room Tip: Sorry, no swimming pool but I couldn't delete the mark

Great place to stay in Varanasi, right on the Ganges. Helpful staff, lots of services and amenities available, and even a rooftop restaurant that discreetly serves beer(!!) in tea kettles. I stayed in Ganpati Home rather than the Guest House, which was, regrettably, not on the river and didn't have working wifi (some trouble with the password?), but the room itself was very good, albeit perhaps a tad overpriced at 1200 rupees for not being on the river.

The second day of our first visit to India was to Varanasi and we had pure booked room with a view at the Ganpati Guest house. Like anywhere in the Ghats it is a bit of a mission to find your way through the maze of alleys but asking directions got us there. We checked in and were delighted that the hitherto unavailable second room for my daughter and partner had been not only made available but was adjacent to ours. Our room had a spacious bedroom the walls of which were alternately the colour of turmeric and paprika. At statue of Ganesha perched on a plinth in the corner of the bedroom and the bed was covered in an throw of indian cotton intricately patterned in dark blue and emerald green inset with sequins. The adjoining bathroom was surprisingly modern with marble tiled floor shower and loo. The jewel was the balcony. Set off the bedroom it had a couple of tables and in the centre a swing chair suspended from the roof and a splendid view over the ghats and the Ganges

At the roof top restaurant we were attended to by an enthusiastic young man would spoke very careful English in a soft deliberate manner with an engagingly cheeky sense of humour. The masala omelettes that became more spicy every morning were usually accompanied by potato parathas and sweet hot chai masala. Quite addictive

Perfectly situated to explore the ghats and the lanes of Varanasi with a very friendly owner and staff this remains an enduring highlight of our month in India. We were very pleased that we booked ahead from New Zealand (prompt response to emailed questions and if fact we phoned to clarify a couple of things) as they were turning people away - and only some have those great balconies.

Room Tip: Book well ahead to secure a balcony with a view over the river. Watch the sunrise - remarkable. Get...
