If you truly want to experience Varanasi walking through the narrow alleys and yet right next to the river. There isn't a better place than Ganpati Guest House! River facing rooms, river facing balcony's, river facing open terrace, all made in a traditional old Varanasi haveli (bungalow). Charming and authentic, it makes me fall in love with the place and the people everytime I come here. Can't wait to visit it again!

The Ganpati Guest House is located on the banks of the Ganges between the ceremonial and burning ghats. The rooms were clean and comfortable, we travelled as a group of 13 people, some with air conditioning some with fans only but all rooms were comfortable. The air conditioned rooms did have a TV and/or a fridge, but the fan only rooms had great views and the breeze in the evening made sleeping easy. The location meant that exploring the Gali's was easy, as was access to the Ganges. The rooftop restaurant was a great place to sit back and relax escaping the hustle and bustle of the streets. The staff and service were friendly and helpful.

The guest house is not accessible by car and there is a fair walk to catch a taxi but they offer airport pick up and drop off for 800 rupees per car and there are staff who will carry your bags, making the walk in the heat much less stressful in the busy streets. I would recommend this place wholeheartedly and intend to return myself.

Room Tip: Ganges View Shared Balacony

I was recently with a group of 13 and our leader booked us in to stay at Ganpati Guest House. Upon arriving I was slightly concerned walking through all the back streets and was exhausted after flying and carrying my luggage. Once arriving in my room and opening the doors to a view of the Ganges everything else became irrelevant. I stayed in room 3 and it was beyond my expectations.
The swing chair on the balcony was my piece of heaven whilst looking out onto the Ganges. The rooms were more then adequate, quite a good standard to most places in India, though it kept true to it's country and gave you that feel of India.
The restaurant was very cheap and the food was amazing, I would definitely recommend the omelettes and spring rolls!
All the staff were wonderful and all together we all had an amazing time, I would definitely recommend staying here and I would definitely stay here if I were to return to Varanasi!

Room Tip: Any room overlooking the Ganges is amazing!

Nice place in a great location. Friendly staff. Free wifi for guests. Unfortunately they are capitalizing on the LP recommendation and have dramatically increased their prices. A small corner room with a view of a wall was 1500r. Even with these ridiculous prices, they are very busy - book in advance! If they are full or too expensive, shanthi has decent rooms at a great price and gives guests a free one hour evening boat rude. If I came back to Varanasi, I would stay at shanti not ganpati.

We were in rooms facing the Ganges, with a shared balcony. Great view on the river. The rooms are not very spaceous but that small drawback is compensated for by the authenticity of setup and styling. It all feels very good. The hotel staff is very professional. The attached rooftop restaurant is very nice. At first the staff seems a littlebit awkward and uninterested but give them some time and you will have a great time eating there.
!! An extra, not necessarily only at this rooftop, you get first seats at the daily kite fights. Pay attention and next morning you can also spot some professional "kite-runners" whilst recuperating those kites that did not perish in the Ganges. These can be sold a second time.
The only thing better then the rooms with shared balcony are those with private balcony. We'll have a go at these next time!

Room Tip: Ask for Ganges side and if you want to pay the price .. with private balcony

Very well located, in the heart of the old city of Varanasi. The guesthouse is charming, very well kept, with a breath taking view on the city and its ghats and of course on the Ganga River.
The only thing that can be improved is the staff from the restaurant (the staff of the guesthouse is different and really good).
I loved staying there and hope I can come again very soon !

For me, the bright orange tables on the terrace are the most affable part of Ganpati. The easy breezy ( quite literally) vibe about the place and the folks who run it are the bets part. Its like coming back home.
Good food ( though slow service), bright rooms, the green shady courtyard the proximity to the important ghats is the best part!
Highly recommended for a non-sterile, intimate experience of Varanasi.

Room Tip: Go for room 20 or 12 for AC and Ganga View.. Can avoid 11, 7 and 8

The history of Ganpati Guest House: The Ganpati is located at the east end of the Mother Ganges in Varanasi, makes its presence known throughout the riverbanks not only by shining the world's oldest culture as well as oldest city. A city of light...but also by offering cutting-edge restaurants, renowned facilities, amazing view and comfortable accommodations. This 3-story Redstone pyramid was built in 1905 on the river Ganges, contains so many amenities on such an enormous scale that it's becomes practically amazing vacation. Spacious rooms surrounded by the plants, which boasts your staying, dining and entertainment. The Garden, at more than 1000 square feet, is one of Varanasi's oldest existing buildings and rarely available, offering a tranquil sitting, an array of nice music, a rack of books nearby. We want to deliver inside of the property a best atmosphere. We're trying to become a little more contemporary and appeal to all age crowds with holy feelings. We want to offer the best entertainment, dining, staying and relax without insulting the worth of your damage. That's not to say that "The city of Light" will be memorable entire the life. It is, after all, still a part of what makes the property unique, and explained that the hotel is prepared to keep the better executed elements of the riverbank-culture theme.
