We took a boat from the Ghat to view the Sunset ceremony and we came back again at sunrise (unfortunately it was foggy in morning but still got great photos). Both events were part of a Gate1 tour in December. The Sunset ceremony was great and being on one of the small boats on the Ganges gives the best view.

Brilliant place! be here by 6pm to watch the Ganga Aarthi ... a grand prayer offered to Mother Ganga (the way the River Ganges is called by the locals). You would enjoy the vibrance, colour, music and chanting.

This ghat is the very essence of Varanasi, a place that you first visit when you land in the city. The evening aarti is spectacular, visually appealing even to those who do not understand the worship of a river. Lit up lamps with live singing is a perfectly divine place to be in. It is a photographer's delight.

The same is true for dawn when you can see people doing rituals and taking a dip in the river.

Touts will try to sell you from the boat view - it is not really worth it, unless you wanna feel you are being worshipped. Feel the river being worshipped from the ghat.
