There are places to eat here right on the Ghat itself looking over the Ganges river. This is were many of the boat trips start from. There are lots of people coming and going and it is one of the biggest Ghats. There are no steps on this so its easy to visit.

Just be there watch whatever is going on. You will realise how easy it is to get lost from your own self. 'YOU' will melt away

Situated at the confluence of Ganga and Asi rivers, Assi Ghat is the southernmost Ghat in Varanasi, where pilgrims bathe before paying their homage to Lord Shiva in the form of huge lingam situated under a peepal tree. Assi Ghat also constitutes the southern end of conventional city. Another lingam worshipped here is the Asisangameshwar lingam representing the lord of confluence of the Asi, enshrined in a small marble temple near the Assi Ghat. It was at the Assi Ghat where the famous Indian poet saint, Tulsi Das had written the much-celebrated Ramcharitmanas.

The last flood hit this area quite hard depositing a lot of silt which they were working on cleaning up. Restaurants, shops, hotels all flooded too but the shrine and trees still there so it's getting back to normal.

Disliked the whole of Varanasi, but this place was quit interesting. Nice to just sit down and see what's going on around you. We were here during low season, I bet it is way busier (and more interesting) during high season. At least it didn't smell here!
