“Amazing. Can't say enough. Spend as much time as possible.”

Couldn't be more of a special place. Watch at sunrise and sunset for the best views and most action. Just take you're time walking up and down it. Great views from the large red bridge. Take a boat ride for very few rupees (150) to get another vantage point. Not to be missed!

“It's a must do”
Reviewed December 14, 2013

It's a bucket list thing to do, Varanasi is awful really smelly and smoky, I came away with a cough because of all the burning wood and rubbish, but really worth the chest infection.

Reviewed December 12, 2013

I visited Gange at the night and i assist from a boat to some burning-it was very crowded and the road to Gange is between the markets .In the morning i got the sunrise and the baths. Is better to be on a boat but is nice also to walk near Gange. The localguide showed the place where The Beatles stayed in Vranasi-the Learning and Burning city.

“Varanasi is not worth the trip!!!”
Reviewed December 6, 2013

Its a dirty dusty smelly hole of a town, typical of all of Uddar Pradesh,a state that is dirty, corrupt unfriendly and dangerous.
Cattle are uncrolled and all over the streets, dropping even more filth on to the already uncleaned streets.
As in most of India,no body cleans anything like streets and toilets!
The only possible reason to go to Varanasi is the ghats on the Ganga.
That in itself is an ordeal,as the streets into the old town are too narrow for most transport, and you must pay an Auto rickshaw an inflated price to take you to close to the river.
The old town ,interesting in itself,is hot damp and smelly!
Once you do reach the river banks,at whatever Ghat you arrive at either by foot or Auto, the boat ride sellers at the ghats have to be the biggest overchargers in india.Like $50 or so for a short ride in a rowboat.
Prices go up from there.
Forget the place.
Dont get me wrong, this is my 5th trip to India,Its an interesting country, but after the dirt and filth and corruption of most of India, there is nothing like chilling and relaxing at the end of an Indian trip in the fabulous and civilised ex portaguese enclave of Goa on the southern west coast.
Enjoy!
