My second time in India, feeling very tired and shell shocked arriving in the crazy place of varanasi! after a 40 min taxi ride anxious as to whether this hotel will actually look and feel as it says on its web page. No dissappointments! There must be 10 or so staff just there cleaning, shining, wiping, scrubbing to keep it clean. never known a place so cleaned!! rooms are not that big, but the furniture, paintings and touches just add to the lovely atmosphere and feel of the place. two years ago i was on budget accom. so this was a real treat, if money isn't a real problem then stay here! its out of the way of the busy roads and i was up at 6.30am and just went out onto our terrace and listened to the hums of life down below near the assi ghat. the terraces are lovely too and everything is just so perfect. very romantic i would imagine with a loved one! enjoy your stay if you book this hotel!

ps they did have use of internet but only one screen, and there is 24 hour security guard at the door who are pleasant too.

A comfortable hotel with a homely colonial feel. Upper rooms are definitely the best with good views from the communal sitting areas over the Ganges. Room and bathroom clean, but rooms would benefit from a fridge for water etc. when temperatures are up in the 40's C. Communal sitting areas are air cooled and there are many reference books available for all in the library.

We stayed in room 15 on the 2nd floor and it was lovely. Room and bathroom were clean and right outside our room was a comfortable enclosed sitting area with AC (great for hot afternoons) with views of the Ganges. The beds were very hard and the aircon in the room cut in and out sometimes but even in 45 degrees this didn't detract from the place. The location on Assi Ghat was great, close enough to be right on the Ganges but not at all hectic. It was easy to stroll along the ghats or hail a boat or rickshaw to get into town. The terrace on the first floor was a beautiful place to watch the sun come up and have breakfast. The food was very good but no alcohol. The service was polite and there were no charges made for the soft drinks and snacks we enjoyed in the daytime which was kind.

We stayed at other hotels in varanassi, all supposed to be top range, but the ganges view was far and away the best. Our room (number 13 ) was excellent and although the bathroom is a little shabby for such a great hotel , it was definately the best place to stay in varanassi. The terrace where breakfast is taken, is lovely, and a welcome haven away from the noise and bustle of the ghats. Food is good and as it is a small hotel it has a lovely feel and is in a great position .

Peaceful location, not as manic as other parts of the city. The
room was decorated nicely but the bathroom could have been cleaner. Meals were very nice but be warned it is strictly vegetarian. Breakfast was taken up on the terrace and their banana porridge was divine. All in all it was a good place to stay but we felt that the staff could organise themselves a lot better.

I was realy impressed by this hotel 4 years ago so i wanted to book in advance for this year. They told me this was not possible anymore wich is OK!
I booked somewhere else and we had a wonderfull stay.
While we walked through Varanasi i wanted to show my friend this Hotel because it is so beautifull.
At the doorstep they told me "only guests are welcome!!!" and no it is not possible to have a drink.
I was confused by this kind of hospitality
Maybe they have because of the lonely planet so many customers that it is time to let them know that business is not only money. friendlyness is even more important is my oppinion.

Clean rooms in stylish hotel, but significant problems
- the beds were so hard I couldn't sleep
- we had no hotwater for the three nights we were there, despite assurances it had been fixed
- service was painfully slow. It took nearly an hour to get toast and tea in the morning
- incredibly noisy

If you want to stay by Asi Ghat on the Ganges either stretch to Palace on the Ganges prices [next door but one] or stay in the backpackers place right next door where rooms are Rps800 a night
