I was so impressed with the hospitality of Rudra Guest House employees, they made me feel right at home. Balla was kind enough to pick me up in the wee hours of the morning front the train station and he even showed me all the best sights to see in Varanasi. Not only are the rooms nice and clean, it also has a wonderful view from the rooftop. This guest house is also a wonderful place to meet some nice people in the area. Thanks for making my stay so personal, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

We found this place by accident but we enjoyed it a lot. it is a quiet and clean guest house. In a small street very near the principle ghat. The rooms are big with towels and a nice bathroom.
The rooftop is very pleasant and very comfortable. the food is also good, we had a nice breakfast here.
People here are very nice especially Balla, who has taken care of us during all the day, he made us discover the city very well and we saw beautiful things.

This hotel is owned by the same guy that also owns the Uhm guesthouse; it has similar quality and room prices.
The hotel offers no breakfast but is located relatively quietly which is very convenient, and staff offers nice service.

We found Rudra GH by accident and we really liked it there. It was calm, our room was clean (there was really only a small window facing a wall, but in India it's often better than a window to a street;-)). The staff was very kind and helpful and the location was also very good - right next to the main ghat.

We had a booking in Uma guesthouse but once there the owner told us he had on AC. He told us to stay at Rudra, also his property. When we got there problems continued: there was no room
With both hot water and AC, the price we had paid (at Uma) was much higher than the one we were told in Rudra (600rp). We finally took an AC room which was a nightmare as if we went to bed with the AC on we had to get up later as we would freeze, and then up again when it got too hot again. As for hot water, we were told we could take a shower in another room but then the room was taken so it was quite an ordeal to get the promissed hot water. This would not have been such a problem IF THE STAFF HAD NOT LAUGHED AT MY FACE AND TOLD ME TO DO SOME MEDITATION...AFTER WAITING FOR HOURS... AND OBVIOUSLY WHEN MY HUSBAND CAME INTO THE ARGUMENT THINGS GOT FINALLY SOLVED WITHOUT THAT MUCH LAUGHING OR RELAXATION.
So much for a guesthouse supposed to support an NGO for children... Which I don't believe anymore they do:we were told by Uma owner a strange story about a german partner cheating and taking all the funds... I really don't know who is cheating on that NGO.

I spent 3 weeks staying at the Rudra Guest House in January this year. The staff were lovely and welcoming and I got involved with their NGO 'Learn for Life Society' school and Women's Empowerment Group that the run of donations and profits from the guest house, their corresponding brown bread bakeries (one at the guest house, one in the old city) and their sister guest house, Uma Guest House.
The rooms were clean and quiet with air con and ensuite with 24hour hot water. Rudra Guest house has recently been built and the rooms are very spacious and freshly painted. There is a restaurant upstairs that is beautifully decorated and a nice place to hang out and meet fellow travellers, on the rooftop there are wonderful views of the Ganga and the whole of Varanasi, which was especially a treat as I was their for the kite festival. The food at Rudra Guest House is freshly prepared and always tasted delicious.
I would highly recommend Rudra Guest House to all travellers as I throughly enjoyed my stay, was treated wonderfully by the staff, and worked at a school, benefiting the poorest children in Varanasi. Stay here for a stay with a conscience.
