We had lunch at the Dolphin restaurant on the roof of the Rashmi Hotel in Varanasi. This had come with a personal recommendation and good reviews. The climb to the roof is typically steep and narrow but we were rewarded with a good view of the Ganges. We agreed that the food was good - well balanced spices and the channa masala arguably the best we had tasted (possibly unchallenged for the remaining 3 weeks in India). The experience was somewhat diminished by indifferent and impersonal service, almost as if they were aware of the reputation for good food and so friendly and timely attention wasn't warranted. While the food was good we didn't elect to go back for dinner.
