“A very good value hotel”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

Hotel Buddha is a great place to stay in Varanasi, with very helpful staff and good rooms at very reasonable rates. It is well-located for rail travellers, though is a bit further away from the old town and the river. Food was good, and the reception staff (especially Sia) were great in helping us get to the hotel when we arrived, and then helping us make arrangements for the next leg of our journey. Our room was pretty peaceful, clean and had good A/C. Definitely recommended.

We had some difficulty navigating to this hotel. We had the address and the TA ratings and the review stating it was away away from the Ghats . We had no desire to see the burning Ghats.

Getting into the hotel complex provided immediate relief from the maddening crowd on the roads.

The hotel is basic.
No lifts and one had to walk up the two floors for my super deluxe suite. I am a senior citizen but fortunately I can climb those stairs without much of a strain. Others who may not be of my constitution should be aware.

The suite had a small sitting room and a reasonably large bedroom. An air conditioner was installed in the bedroom and a single fan in the sitting room. The bath room was large and functional.

An hour after check in the bed room was cool and comfortable but the sitting room was like an oven and one had to pass through this quickly into the corridor to avoid unpleasant body temperature variations.

This hotel guarantees a functional air conditioner between 10 PM and 6AM. Most hotels do not bother to have backup generators of adequate capacity to run air conditioners during power failures. This hotel had the necessary equipment . This is a major advantage in this hotel because power failures are quite frequent and lengthy in this region

Food was good but they have no tandoori cooking in the hotel.
Breakfast was free and it was not a buffet spread. We got what we ordered and they were good. Eggs to order, toast, juice etc.

The staff was very polite , friendly and helpful

However if you have come to Varanasi to see the Ghats then this one may be out of the way.

This hotel is best suited for people who are looking for a quiet place to spend the night.

This medium class hotel is best value for money in Varanasi

Room Tip: Ask for the super deluxe room.

I booked Hotel Buddha via phone. We stayed there for two days in the deluxe room. I tried to use a voucher that I saw on Tripadvisor that would ve entitled us to 20% off on the room. but they didnt accept it as according to the hotel staff it was eligible only for the super deluxe rooms.
Breakfast was included- average tasting food, puri-sabji, jalebi, sandwiches, tea coffee, eggs-decent variety but no fruits or juices.
Pros-
Adequate parking space-important since we drove down.
Good fresh food when you order.
Prompt service
Took our reservation without an advance
Clean rooms, spotless bathrooms
Centrally located.
Cons-
Didnt take the voucher
Didnt look as pretty as the website-bare walls, no carpets etc. Stark and bare.
Overall good value for money.

This is a good choice for a mid-range hotel in Varanasi. It seems to be popular with tour groups, although my friend and I were the only two guests during my stay. The front desk staff wasn't very friendly at all, but the kitchen and waitstaff were really great.

This is the only place in my travels where the chef has stopped by my room to see if we would take dinner that night. I understand why - if we didn't, then there would be no point of him staying longer. Makes sense, but still funny. He did however come through with some beers in a rice sack (Royal Challenge, no less!). Really great staff here who joked around with us and cooked exceptional food - some of the best parathas that I had anywhere in India. I actually think it was the waiter who cooked them as well.

The hotel also has a tour leader inside, who will sit with you after check-in and explain all the sights in Varanasi. Our leader was Pintu, a friendly local who spoke English well and gave us a great 1/2 day tour. Pintu showed us the old town, historic temples, back alleys, ritual watching from a boat, trip to the burning ghats guided by a priest(!), and then bought us chai at the end. We really enjoyed him, and this was one of the few tours that I can really recommend. One regret was not going to Sarnath, but we were just too tired to do much of anything.

The hotel is not located in the best area. It's safe, but there's nothing really around it. Traffic is a real pain in Varanasi, and seemed to be magnified here with the nearby train station. There is also not a restaurant in sight, though the food inside the hotel turned out to be quite nice.

The hotel would probably be better with a large group, as it felt akward to have the entire place to ourselves. I'd actually suggest for them to build dorms and open to backpackers in the slow season.

I came back to Varanasi again and made the mistake of staying in a cheaper place by the river. Going forward, I'd definitely suggest for others to stay at Hotel Buddha. A good experience for a fair price. Be sure to visit the city with Pintu, and don't worry too much about the rude front desk staff - the others are delightful!

This is a good choice of hotels, slightly away from the real hustle and bustle but central enough for a quick taxi or rickshaw ride to and of the Ghats or train station, you have to walk through the filthy alleyways to a lot of the hotels on the Ganges. The Buddah can be driven to. The rooms are large and clean. The managment and staff are friendly and attentive without being pushy. You can negotiate a better price with management

Hotel Buddha is a decent hotel in Varanasi. It is close to the ghats and the location is fine. One reason we booked here is that it has adequate parking as we had driven down.

All in all, an ok hotel..no frills..

Although it would have been hard to find if our driver did not know it (its a bit out from the centre of the old town), it was a little oasis away from all the noise and has a nice garden adjacent to it. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. The trips organised by staff at the hotel were very good. The room we stayed in was large and had seats as well as a bed (which was also very large). I would have no hesitation in recommending it.
