I went to kashi in the first week of march, after a short stop over at Allahbad for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2013
A friend's friend had recommended Ram Bhawan and me and my friend landed up there, without any pre bookings...
We thankfully got a nice cozy room to stay in for the next few days we were there...
Ram bhawan is not your typical guest house or a hotel that one would come across in one of the many cities of India.
Clean, comfortable and full of positive vibes, u WILL fall in love with the place.... If the interiors dont manage to impress you, please visit the roof top cafe... Gives a great view of the ghats and is the perfect place to see the sun rise (i saw three of them)
Its also just a stone's throw away from the Munshi ghat...
One meets open minded people and travellers from across the globe at Ram Bhawan, all there to discover the magic that is Kashi..

Its the perfect place to set up base as you go about exploring the colorful city, its many by lanes and sounds of music...
I would suggest pre bookings as the place is usually occupied.... Send an email and it should be done...
My thanks to everyone at Ram Bhawan who made my stay "homely"
:)
Although i could never understand when the cafe on the roof was actually open, coz we went there a couple of times, and they told us they'd shut shop for the day...
but other than that, its Perfect...
Oh and if you decide to see the sun rise, carry a stick...The monkey's rule the rooftops of Kashi and YOU are the outsider :)

I wish I could have stayed longer in this place... it's like a big family that welcomes you, it's a lot more than an hotel. Super clean, super good food and in the heart of the city. The staff is so nice and ready for a chat or to give you advices for what to do or see in the city. I wish every place I've visited in India would have been like this one.

The guest house is an excellent place to stay. I stayed in the dormitory - a very nice large room. The facilities are very good - hot water, breakfast, very friendly & helpful staff. Since the place is situated quite a bit away from the roads, it is a very quite place and there is no traffic noise. The only 'drawback' is the approach lanes to the guest house, which are sometimes dirty. The evening we arrived at the guest house, it had rained heavily - hence, lanes were filled with muddy water.

Room Tip: The dormitory is ideal for a large family.

A wonderful base for exploring Varanasi. Not just because it is convenient, spotlessly clean, very friendly, but because it is part of a society that promotes understanding of the city and its sites, preservation and regeneration of its monuments and neighbourhoods. We went on a cultural tour with the Society and were blown away - worth every rupee.

I found it from internet and Stayed here for 2 days in Feb'2012 .It is totally different from a Hotel. Place is very homely, and the food is also very good. The best part is the rooftop resturant which opens in the evening and you can meet people from different countries over a coffee or snacks. The place is a blend of heritage and cultural activities. I like the place and will be travelling again whenever i get time
