This is must see. A very interesting place steeped in history. Well worth researching beforehand to make the visit more interesting.

Amazing place, walking down MG Road from the other sights in Lucknow(Clock Tower, etc.), the first gate you come to is no entry so further down the road is the main entrance, you'll be pestered by beggars, offered cold drinks but get through the gate it is very quiet.
There's a book shop of sorts but then just wander, through the main gate, to the right is a memorial to loyal troops(I won't argue about right or wrong) and then all the damaged buildings unfurl before you. They all have a description but the most moving part is the cemetery, then go to the Residence(cameras must be put into a locker, it's free) and go into the basement, it's where all the women and children sheltered.
Watch out for courting couples, it's a cheap place for them to go and be alone, every building seems to have them, red faces all round.

It is a large old place of historical importance but in a state of neglect. U can find dirt and litter all around. They have a museum before entering which you will be asked to keep all ladies bags, wallets, cameras, phones in a cloak room, the museum has a misty smell all around esp in the basement which is under renovation, display of historical things is average.
Outside in the garden areas couples can be found in all corners and passages for reasons well known and groups of boys having fun watching them and passing comments...
Overall good place which needs lots of improvement and good management.

Brings back the history in front of our eyes, but you will feel a bit out of place. The general crowd there are countless couples utilising the low entry fee to the vast openness.
