Cheap and dirty is the best way to describe this place. During the low season, we were able to negotiate rock bottom prices for a room which was damp and dark with no windows. It had an ensuite bathroom, but shower without pressure was more like a defective garden hose. The rooftop restaurant has a direct view on the Taj Mahal which is probably the venue's best asset, but the food is average and pretty much guaranteed to give you the runners. End of August, it is fairly hot in Agra and I would recommend you get AC if you want to sleep comfortably. Location-wise, it is great as you can be in the Taj in less than 5 minutes.

Room Tip: If it's warm, get AC because the rooms have no breeze and are very sticky.

You get a nice view of the Taj from the roof but apart from that it's a bit grim. We were unlucky enough to be there during a festival so there was a tannoy (not speaker, a tannoy) blaring music from 5am till midnight which didn't help plus the a/c had trouble dealing with the 48c Agra swelt-athon.

If our rooms had been cleaned before we arrived it wasn't done with much conviction, a theme that is expanded throughout the rest of this dingy, confused hotel. Like most places in India there are always plenty of staff sitting around but nothing proactive ever seems to get done, there were dusty boxes of whatever sitting around in stairwells, broken lights that need fixing and walls that are crying out for a coat of paint or even a wash down. The wifi was patchy to say the least and the TV didn't have a connection to an arial so I'm not even sure why it was there.

Up on the roof terrace there were generally 2-3 staff sitting about chatting whilst tables needed clearing or even maybe finish stripping the plastic coating off the legs of the chairs that looks like it's been there for years. Simple things that cost nothing to fix but would improve this guesthouse immeasurably, I suspect that if I returned in five years time (post hell-freeze over) the boxes in the stairwell and the cellophane packaging would still be there, under five years of grime. Why don't the owners care to address these simple issues? Cheap doesn't have to mean dirty and neglected,

It's just about made it from Terrrible to Poor on account of it being cheap and close to the South Gate of the Taj.

There's nothing to redeem Agra other than the Taj and the Fort, get in, stay (somewhere else) for one night and get out.

This is a typical cheapie in India.

It's a 5 min walk from the South gate of the Taj and has a rooftop restaurant with great Taj views.

We paid for an AC room as Agra in May is hot as hell (it was 47 degrees one day we were there!) - we paid 800 rupees a night so not too bad but not the absolute cheapest we had either.
Our room was spacious but smelt of damp and the bathroom was awful, dirty and smelly.

Service was not great and be prepared to wait ages for drinks and food. But when it did come, food was pretty good - standard traveler fare.
Also, they will constantly try to sell you tours and taxi drivers seem to hang about at reception so be prepared for that and be firm if you don't want anything from them!!

We did find this to be a sociable place with lots of travelers hanging out on the rooftop so good place to meet other travelers and have a few beers in the evenings.

Overall it's adequate for where it is but don't expect great things.

We were shown a few different rooms and chose the least awful one. It was only 500 rupees a night but we would have paid more for something nicer. The bed was like a wooden plank, there were mosquitoes, the room was dirty. The bathroom was pretty horrible but it had a hot shower which was redeeming. The sink didn't have a pipe so water went straight onto the floor. Fortunately, the toilet didn't leak. It was noisy all night as people outside turned lights on and off and banged doors constantly.

The rooftop view is amazing. It is worth getting up early, seeing the Taj before 7am, coming back to have breakfast on the roof, then leave Agra.

This part of Agra is right next to the Taj with great rooftop views, but it is surprisingly the worst part of India that we went to. Really dirty and squalid, which surprised us as there are so many tourists, and it wouldn't take much to clean up the area and give the people who live right by the Taj a better quality of life.

Room Tip: Have a look around a few rooms and chose the least horrible one.

Very good value in Agra as there is lots of competition in Taj Gang. As other reviews state as well, the rooftop view is the selling point. The restaurant food is average and the service decent. The room itself wasn't too bad and for about $8 a night I wasn't going to complain. Nothing too fancy here but a good enough stay in Agra.

I stayed here for one night (that is all was my travel plan for Agra) after reading the reviews on this website and seeing photographs of roof top restaurant. I was not at all disappointed as my expectations were not much from this property after reading all this. My room was basic with double bed, bathroom, sofa and TV with cable. Bathroom was in bad shape. But what else to expect from a pvt. room with pvt. bath for just $8 (Rs. 400) per night and that also at walking distance from Taj. The view of Taj from roof top is amazing and that was the main reason to book this property. Auto fare from Agra Cantt railway station is Rs. 80.
