Hotel Kamal
Ranked #62 of 142 Hotels in Agra

The hotel is just beside the South Gate of the Taj Mahal. The hotel is very clean, good facility, and has friendly staff. The room was big with confortable bed, tv, fan, seating chairs, and good size bathroom. Very good value for your money.

The hotel has a terrace which has a beautiful view of the Taj Mahal and the city. Unfortunate, the food service, especially breakfast, in the terrace is very SLOW. So, you better have your breakfast in the hotel restaurant in the main floor and go to the terrace for the view. The hotel food was good quality and good price.

The hotel is a good location is you want to visit the Taj Mahal at 6:00am, when it opens. Beside the hotel, you will find internet cafe, restaurants, grocery store, etc.

why hotel kamal got all these positive reviews/ratings befuddles me. i mean, i know agra isn't known for the quality of its accommodation but surely, this hotel doesn't deserve those comments or its ranking.

two main points of displeasure -

1. we had made enquiries to the owner via email with regard to the room rates. this was what was told to us - non-AC double = rs 400, AC double = rs 600 etc. and we settled on the rs 600 AC double. on arrival (more or less at our earlier-given time of arrival, around afternoon-ish), the man at the reception tells us that there is no more rs 600 room and offers us an AC double at rs 800 instead. i was displeased but allowed them to show us the rs 800 room. in the room, the AC when turned on made a lot of noise, as did the ceiling fan, and my baby and i decided to reject it. after some discussion between the guy who showed us the room and the man at the reception, the former showed us another room on the second floor - he says something like: well, this is also a rs 600 room but it actually belongs to someone else but we can give it to u and give the other room to that 'someone else'; but in any event, this room has no AC. didn't quite like what i saw but since it was a price we were willing to pay and the ceiling fan was quiet, we accepted it, forgetting that the owner had earlier stated clearly in his email that non-AC doubles cost rs 400. when i re-read the printed email later and realised this, i tried to argue with the man at the reception about the price of our room (that it should be rs 400 instead) but that did nothing - in the end, my baby and i decided to just pay the extra rs 200 because we didn't want to waste any more precious holiday time arguing.

2. depressingly bland interiors, stained bedsheets, unpleasant toilets. what else do you want to hear?

haven't got any pictures to show tho' as i didn't want any to remind myself of the experience!

This is run by a great dude who is helpful and the staff will try their best for you, but it is currently being renovated so maybe check on that....there is a slight insect issue but this is mainly to do with the city rather than the hotel.

Also has a very good and safe restaurant. A word of warning: DO NOT EAT AT THE PLACE NEXT TO IT CALLED 'Join us the rooftop restaurant' you WILL get ill.

Value for money basic rooms with friendly service with information on attractions. Roof top view is amazing as you watch the Taj Mahal at sunset. It is 2 mins walk to the Taj and this is a huge bonus if you want to visit it at sunrise. Stuffmakers restaurant is always cool (air-cool) and serve decent breakfast and Indian food.

Hotel Kamal is conveniently located within walking distance of the Taj Mahal and its roof terrace makes it a good place to enjoy its view. The staff is friendly and rooms are clean although the hotel looks like it could have been a jail in a previous life.

It was okay. Plus points: Good location to Taj Mahal, good view of the Taj from the rooftop restuarant but the air quality of Agra is so bad that you can barely see it through the haze. The food at the restuarant is good and cheap.

Bad points: The neighborhood it is in is a slum essentially. I would not recommend a single woman traveller to stay in this neighborhood. It is pretty run down and the room is extremely basic. Our windows didn't shut all the way, and we were FREEZING as it is winter and no heating. They said we were in a deluxe room but we had no hot water. The bathroom has an open window with bars- no glass in it- to the outside so all the cold air can come in and people can hear you. Pretty glad we only stayed one night in it.
