It is a good budget hotel. The room service & location was very good. Needs to give more attention on cleaning & power backup since the city is suffering huge power fluctuation problem. It's hardly 100 meter from taj's west gate, so the best thing about the hotel is it's location.

It's very average or lower-than-average hotel. Has perfect location and perfect architecture (green courtyard) but it could be better arranged. Courtyard is green but full of rubbish, seems that they clean just the paths from and to restaurant, not paying attention on edges and corners. The weakest point is restaurant. Food is overpriced and really really awful. You have to wait for it very long and if youre in group its like: one person gets main course (which is getting cold while we wait for something to drink), half an hour later next person gets a dessert and after that cold soup and so on. Guys from service seem to be insulted when you notice you are waiting too long (or they gave you less change they should). In our room there was no hot water, we had to ask staff to bring it to us in a bucket. In the morning we were waken up very early by a noisy indian group having breakfast in a restaurant. Other thing is that the manager is very proud of roof terrace, but doesn't tell people there are agressive monkeys which attacked my friend (Besides: they have huge terrace but its just an empty space with two dirty chairs, nothing more, no shade, no table, no green, just empty roof).
It's recommended in Lonley Planet, but i was really dissapointed (comparing to other LP picks).

Horrifying place and people, dont go even if its free.

Ever heard anyone shouting at customers who is going to pay for their stay. I strongly advise... dont even go close to this hotel. such a j**k person owning and managing this place.

BTW the place stinks...it is actually an old residential place converted. you can see damaged houses, broken furniture, and stinking beddings (remove bedsheets to see dirty mattress).

Not a single person in Agra has good thought about this hotel.

Enjoy!

This is my first trip traveling alone (21 yr old female) to India or to any country as matter of fact....first I was feeling very scared to be alone in India....then i heard about a good hotel in Agra - Hotel Sidhartha (just 2 mins walk to Taj Mahal)....well after arriving in Agra.....i took a rickshaw drive to hotel Sidharta ...felling very tired of my long trip......as soon as i came by the gateway of the hotel...i felt like home...the staff took my bags, showed me a great groom...with very good amenities...just few minutes after....a menu was showed to me...to my surprise the menu included not just Indian dishes but also Chinese (im a very big fan of Chinese food by the way!!) and Korean and a wide variety of continental dishes....any type of meal you are feeling like having; they have it!!....Also there is a wonderful view of the Taj Mahal from the hotel's roof top...which is also a good spot to go and cool out or hang out.....Also i must commend the staff and manager of hotel Sidhartha for the excellent service which i received from arrival!! very good job in keeping the rooms clean and pleasant and warm service 24/7....i would to thank the staff at hotel Sidhartha for making my trip an excellent one....for taking good care of me...alway i felt as though i was at home among my own family and friends! THANK U !!!!

My family (wife, father, brother, sister-in-law, niece & nephew) recently stayed at Hotel Sidhartha. After checking in, we informed the front desk that in 2 of the 3 rooms we were staying in the hot water heaters were not working. They said they would get right on it. We came back in the evening, 4 hours later, and the hot water heaters were still not working. After a late dinner we returned to find the hot water heaters still not working. There was no solution. The hot water heater in our room was completely broken, which they knew before they checked us into the room. at 10:00 at night, the manager gave my wife and I a key to the room next to ours and said we could use the shower in the morning; they told my father to just take a shower in my brother's room, the only room that had a hot water heater that worked.

In the morning, when we went to check out, the owner tried to charge us 750 Rps a room (published rate on Hotel Sidhartha's website is 600 Rps). When we complained about the price because we didn't have hot water heaters, they told us that they were giving us one room for free, which we were happy with until we discovered that it was the room that we spent 15 minutes in for our showers that morning. The manager refused to lower the price despite our hot water issues because we had gotten "one room for free." He was extremely rude and insulting as he refused to listen to our concerns, constantly cutting us off as we tried to explain the situation.

Furthermore, the food from the restaurant was terrible and unhygienic. We found hair in our food, left over food particles in the cups and on the silverware which also had a thin layer of grease on them. The coffee pot had a huge piece of curry in it. Totally nasty.

On the plus side, Hotel Sidhartha is a convenient 2 minute walk from the west gate of the Taj. You can also get an excellent view of the Taj from the rooftop.

But, if you want a place that is reasonably priced and looks out for its patrons, look elsewhere.
