“Heritage hotel with spacious rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 21, 2010

We stayed in this hotel for our visit to Taj Mahal. When we checked in, we were warmly welcomed by the staffs and were upgraded to a suite! The Emperor Chandragupta suite was one rather large room, with its private access to the swimming pool. This being a heritage hotel, the decoration of the suite tends to be, well, heritage. There was nothing wrong with that, especially when there is ample room to be running around if you wish, and even the bathroom was huge. The only quirk with the bathroom was that the bathtub did not have any shower curtains around it. So after a shower, the bathroom floor would be soaking wet.

The hotel compound is rather spacious as well, with the swimming pool at one side of our suite and a big garden at the other. November happens to be a very pleasant time to be visiting Agra so the cool night breeze makes a quite sit at the garden pretty relaxing. The food at the restaurant was pretty good too, and so was the breakfast buffet.

It is not one of those hotels that you consider posh. However, with the special treatment that we received, it was still a pretty good stay.

The hotel is very nice, quiet place in the noisy Agra. The garden is nice with a swimming pool. But the real value are rooms that are spacious and very well decorated. The only bas aspext is the restaurant that serve a poor breakfeast and a costly and not good buffet at night.

This hotel was gorgeous. Large rooms, four poster bed, adjoining lounge, large bathroom - very British colonial with large verandas. We had a couple of drinks in the bar with some snacks so didn't try the restaurant at night but the breakfast was nice enough, very good service. I would definitely return to this hotel.

We stayed here for one night while visiting Agra. Everything regarding the check in and booking went perfectly and our room was ready when we got there at 11:00 am. The room itself was very clean and well looked after. Everything worked and the bathtub was a welcome relief after the grime of Agra. The only complaint about the room was the overwhelming smell from the air fresheners. Even after I pulled them out of the wall sockets it was overwhelming when you returned to the room after being outside. That said we had a very good sleep. The hotel restaurant was okay. The food was rather bland for Indian food and pricey. The worst part was when the sitar player started playing "Strangers in the Night" Overall a fine hotel and good value for money.

...on first appearances at least, with similar colonial style architecture and long corridors. But that's pretty much where it ends. Away from the noisy madness that is Agra there is peace and respite here and a comfortable bed awaits. Rooms spacious and good a/c and ceiling fans. Cleanliness is ok here but not brilliant, dusty bed frames and furniture that hasn't been moved for some time to clean behind it - but you kinda get used to this when in India and this was better than many.

Food reasonable quality here but pretty expensive - cost us Rp 1300 for lunch. Internet very expensive Rp 900 per 24 hours but there is WIFI in the reception area and you can pick it up free in their Suite rooms.

A good mid-range option with staff not as friendly, and facilities are more limited than the Howard Park Plaza but it feels a little more upmarket and exclusive and is much smaller. Staff polite and quite formal, not warm.

One thing that made us giggle was the room safe which is in the wardrobe was not attached to the wall or indeed anything else. I couldn't open it easily so brought it to my husband to open - we both laughed as this kind of negated the use of it - and used the hotel reception safe instead.

A real gem of an oasis in Agra. Very central and superb staff. They found us a mechanic for our auto rickshaw which needed some tlc while we sat on the lawn and drank beer. Marvellous. Great room, lots of hardwood and a superbly comfy bed. Will return.
