“Nice little place close to Taj”
Reviewed September 16, 2008

This hotel is a nice place to stay in Agra. We stayed for 2 nights but I think one is enough and would have preferred to have an extra night in JAipur or somewhere in Rajasthan. Anyway the hotel and rooms were nice and there's a nice place to have a beer on the roof where the manager is refurbing the bar.

Taj of course was unreal and the most beautiful building on the planet. Unfortunately Agra isn't so nice so Taj Plaza is a good option because it's got decent rooms and nice places to have some food and drink. It's also pretty cheap and the security guard outside is one of the best people we met in India.

Worth a visit!!

Yes the place is cheap. Yes it is very near the Taj Mahal. Yes I accepted a room with no AC but...
I had the impression that they completely forgot that I booked 2 weeks before and that I sent an email of confirmation (I received an answer from them). They gave us a room just near the reception and I should have refused it but it was a very busy indian WE.
The room was decent but very humid. The fan was so noisy that it was impossible to sleep because we had to switch it off and it was very hot. The room number was 101, never take this room, every 10/15/20 mn the phone of the reception was ringing, people getting back at night to the hotel were loud.
Impossible to sleep. The day after we escaped! People didn't seem to be concerned.

  • Liked — nothing
  • Disliked — the lack of professionalism of the reception desk, the noise, the sad room

Firstly the location is great, near the Taj Mahal which is the only reason you should be in Agra in the first place.

We stayed 1 night and found the room (One of the more expensive taj facing rooms) to be dirty on arrival, crawling with all kinds of insects. Some i can put up with but this was a joke. The beds were dirty, the AC for which you pay extra will cut out 5 times a night, sometimes due to Agra's terrible electricity supply and other times because of the 'unique' wiring in the room. Either way you the inevitable heat will wake you up in minutes.
The advertised 'roof top terrace' is also currently a building site, from which work will commence at 8am.

The only positives are that we only stayed there 1 night and that it is right next to the Oberoi which has a fully functional roof top terrace from which to sip your beer.

We chose this hotel based on previous good reviews, and we weren't disappointed. The hotel is situated five minutes walk away from the East Gate of the Taj Mahal, and the reception staff were able to give us good tips about how to travel between the Taj and Agra Fort. Our room was spotless, and our only disappointment came from being asked to change rooms after our first night to accommodate a family who had just arrived (we refused) and the restaurant which was not open as advertised at 05.00 (in fact we woke the staff up in order to check out). However, this said, we were otherwise happy with our experience.

  • Liked — cleanliness, and close proximity to Taj
  • Disliked — nothing, minor inconvenience only

Chose this hotel because others replied saying they were full, but wasn't disappointed at all. It's located within walking distance to Taj Mahal's east gate and other shops and restaurants. The staff was friendly and the driver they recommended was reliable. However, it seems its rooftop restaurant wasn't in operation.

This place is within easy walking distance from Taj Mahal. Not only that, we had a view on T M from our room window!! The hotel is very clean, staff is very nice and helpful, esp. the doorman, an older guy who is only too happy to help! Right next door is a $2000/night hotel, but I doubt if it is any better!
We only recommend staying in Agra for 1 night/day. This town is flooded with tourists and thus screwed up with many, many touts. This is the only town we got taken. Just face it, go to T M and forget the rest. Even though the T M ticket ($20) shows that it also covers the fort and other attractions, it DOES NOT. Plan to come up with more $$. Not worth it in my opinion - forts are every place as are palaces without getting shafted.

  • Liked — location - could not ask for better if you want to see Taj Mahal
  • Disliked — can't think of a thing!

I booked the Taj Plaza online through a travel portal and I was thrilled with the experience. It's extreme proximity to the Taj Mahal - it's a 7 minute walk to the east gate!! The Taj can also be viewed from the Rooftop restaurant. The reception staff is wonderful as well as the doorman. The decor is ok as were the bathrooms. Cleanliness is not too much of an issue. The food was very good. My only point of contention is the bellboys etc were not in uniform which is not even a real complaint. All in all a wonderful experience for the price!
