“Quiet hotel near the East Gate”
Reviewed September 27, 2011

We did stay in this hotel for 3 nights. We were a bit worried before our arrival because of all bad comments.
Finally, we found a quite nice hotel, clean room and quiet area.
Reception staff are not the friendliest guys but they do their job. However, the guy at the roof top restaurant was really nice and helpfull with us ! Food was OK... from the roof top, there is a great view on the Taj.
The hotel is only at 600m from the East gate of the Taj and about 3km from the fort (walking street).

Great room view of the Taj and roof deck that they serve meals on. Stairs only. Bathroom had open window to the hallway with no screens. So mosquitos came in the bathroom and had to keep door shut so wouldn't cone in room. And can hear everything in hall in bathroom and vice versa. Not too clean but tolerable for one night. Maybe the best view due to location so everything else is sacrificed. Quite low cost so and since we were in and out we could deal with it. Employees were helpful with train reservations. Book trains atleast one day in advance!

The best is that it's 5 min walking from the Taj Mahal east gate. We had a NonAC room, (I never want AC in rooms), but this time the fan was very noise, so during the night it was a little problem. The room was good. They have wifi in room but not free. They also told me that it was possible the wifi would not work, and they let me use the lan at the desk.

We stayed here in the height of the Agra winter. In a word, it was terrible.

The rooms we got were right at the top of the building, and as they don't have an elevator, we had to climb the whole thing oursleves, with our heavy bags too.

Granted our rooms has an awesome view of the Taj (the one good thing about this hotel is the views), the rooms themselves were a huge dissappointment. They were FREEZING and I had to argue for hours with the staff to give us an extra electric heater when one of the girls in our group was sick with a fever. It was a painful process, and when it did arrive, it hardly made a difference to the room. The funiture is old and poky, and the food was only tolerable, with a very unimpressive menu.

The bathrooms are also very old fashioned and have seen a lot of use. We were lucky if we got luke warm water - most of us opted not to shower at all as it was way too cold.

On our last day our friend was still very ill so we asked if she could stay in after check out while we organised transport out of Agra. We were refused, and they were in all very un helpful and inhospitable. In the end we had to go down the street and stayed at another hotel (dont remember its name, but much more mordern and friendly - starts with 'L')

The hotel is in a goold location if you want to get around, but Agra is so small that any other option would be good too.

Room Tip: Ask for lower rooms if you want accessablity, or the highest floor rooms for a view - but keep in mi...

Looks great on the outset compared to other options. Stayed for just one night after staying at a place in Taj Ganj. No atmosphere, poor excuse for a rooftop terrace. The bathroom was filthy, as were the sheets. The only helpful member of staff was a young girl at reception. The other two men tried to rip us off getting a car to the train station and pocket an extra 200Rs.
Security guard and drivers brilliant.
Overall, better to stay in Taj Ganj and lower priced rooms than fork out for the same but just slightly larger (and dirtier)

View and location were good, right beside the taj and with a great view from the rooftop area where you can eat or relax with a drink.

Room was cleanish, sheets were grubby.

We ordered a car to Fatephur Sikri, the price seemed OK and in line with the guide, but I think the hotel got almost twice what the driver got. They booked train tickets for us back to Delhi and turned out they were wait list tickets and not actually confirmed seats. They led us to believe they were confirmed seats.

They charged a lot for a Kingfisher Strong - Rs 220

Happy with room, great exp until we went to leave. Wouldn't recommend booking drivers from this guest house but room itself great. Travel man gave incorrect information said Delhi to Agra 8-12 hours to justify price. However got to Delhi and it was less than 5 hours had to then find last min hotel in the middle of the night. Driver was quiet fast and car not in good condition. - paid was air con and was not working! Would recommend on basis of location and room.
