Stayed here 1 night for our visit to Taj Mahal and Agra Fort...

The property is a large villa being converted into a hotel....

The best point of the hotel is of course its architecture, the reception hall fairly beautiful in its own way, with arches decorated with painted flowers...restaurant is just beside the reception hall, which has the same vintage feel and look as well...however, as with any old property, the hotel has a slight musty smell.....

Room has the same musty smell as well...the room is very very basic......cleanliness is average....as with all old properties, the furniture looks a bit worn out as well....

We have breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel restaurant as arranged by our tour agency...choices of food for buffet breakfast and dinner is ok, its a mix between indian and western cuisine...but.....the wierd thing is that they do not serve any drinks at the buffet...any drinks have to be ordered including coffee and tea for breakfast, coffee or tea ordered separately..thus we have to pay for a cup of very very average coffee that we ordered during breakfast, it was 100 ruppee.....all other hotels we've been in India served coffee, tea and 2 to 3 selection of fruit juice at their buffets.....for lunch, we were served 3 course meals, portions were large, we were served at least 4 to 5 dishes for main course........

Food taste fairly average as compared to other higher end restaurants we've tried in Delhi...no complains here as most hotels throughout the world offer average tasting food.....also we did not get any stomach upsets which is a good sign..........

Have checked online for the hotel pricing...it's around USD 50++ to USD 60++ for 1 night stay....our stay there was arranged by tour agencies and we do not have the slightest idea at the rates of the hotel or wat are the pricing standards for hotels in India before we came for the trip....thus..for those who want a more comfortable stay...maybe consider upping your budget....

Stayed a night here as part of a tour group, room average compared with the other 19 or so we stayed in on the tour, nothing worked, TV, fridge, hot water etc. but you get used to that and the room smelt a bit musty. Downstairs though was lovely and the service was excellent. Big friendly restaurant with good choice of meals and good buffet breakfast. I echo the previous reviewer- The Taj Mahal is way more beautiful than any photographs and well worth a visit once in a lifetime, just ignore the hawkers on the way from the bus....

we recently stayed here while touring India. This hotel is really comfortable with large modern rooms , and big clean bathrooms we were very well looked after here- I had a touch of the dreaded Delhi Belly here (not from anything I ate here) - the hotel staff were all so caring- we returned from our tour of the Taj Mahal and after several hours in extreme heat I was feeling so poorly I had to be helped into the lobby- the staff were all brilliant; helping us to our room, calling up to offer medication and much later when I felt better after a good sleep delivering up complimentary tomato soup and toast! - really thoughtful- and the next day everybody asked how I feeling. This really is a lovely hotel, and its proximity to the Taj Mahal and fort make it an ideal choice
btw - the Taj Mahal is definitely worth it - it totally lives up to its reputation- the most beautiful monument ever

If one is planning to explore Taj & its nearby area, Utkarsh Vilas is well positioned in Agra. Its clean & has all the basic amenities required for the stay. Staff is ready to help. I found food to be good as well though the buffet can be given more attention. Location is a big plus for this property.

My first impressions of this hotel were very positive - very nice room with king bed, flat screen TV and nice pool outside. Lunch in the restaurant was good (chicken korma and paneer sticks in a spicy sauce). Took a while to get a cold beer, but the wait staff did their utmost to please.

I stayed here as part of a tour. The service was top notch. I am gluten free so could not enjoy the buffet. The server and manager told me to wait ten minutes and lo and behold I received one very delicious meal - complete with some chickpea flour flatbread!! The staff was very friendly; the rooms were very clean and bright. As a petite female traveler, I felt very safe here. One downside - the wifi is in the lobby only and has an hourly charge.
