This hotel is the perfect location for a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal. The rooms are a bargain for the price but small and get very warm. We traveled as a 3 so getting an extra bed put in a standard double meant no real room left in the room. Squeeze in, enjoy the bargain and ideal location.

We went there 1 night as a group of 4 and got 2 AC rooms for 800Rps/room (exc breakfast).
The rooms were recent, clean, big and confortable.
The hotel is just 100m for east gate of Taj Mahal!
There is a free Wifi that worked only for a couple of hours.
There is a good and cheap restaurant just outside the hotel but the hotel restaurant is also good and I recommend it for dinner as the place is great.
Staff is ok but slow for checkin.
A good hotel to stay.

Pros: The location of this hotel can't be beat - it is literally right next door to the Taj Mahal. It's about R50-80 to the train station, and cars can not drive right up to the hotel because its located in the carless zone outside Taj. Since there is no car traffic, the hotel is very quiet. There is also a nice garden to relax in, Coffee Day, ATMs, and shopping are also close by.

Cons: The water from the AC drips into all the bathroom, so the floor is constantly wet and the bathroom is always damp. We had hair on the pillows, dirt, and semen stains on the sheets. The restaurant is subpar and the food overpriced. The owner is nice, but the other staff come off as creepy.

Room Tip: Spend the extra $$ for an AC room in the spring/summer!

We stayed in the 'deluxe' room with air con, 800rps/night.
To be honest it felt claustrophobic as there are no windows and the room is very damp. The air con was leaking and when we told the reception they said they couldn't do anything about it as it was Saturday and electricians wouldn't be able to come until Monday. So the unit leaked all night onto the floor in a bucket.
We then asked for bed covers numerous times to which the responses were: "5 minutes". They never came.
But the room was clean and comfortable despite all the above.
Food was overpriced: a soda is 30rs!
\You can find better elsewhere.
Location good next to East gate so easy walk at 5am for the Taj Mahal but we had to wake the reception to get the gate open!

Located in an area which has no traffic, Hotel Sheela is the perfect place to visit the Taj Mahal from. Although the ticket office is 1 km away (you can get a ticket for the next day and have a nice walk), the South gate is nearby and it's also possible to get a ticket from there. We wanted to visit the Taj Mahal as early as possible and were the first tourists to take pictures at 5.30.
Although the outside looks not very luxury, you will be surprised when you see the rooms. We had an aircon room, but air-cooled is good too. The aircon was only 800 rupees. Big plus is the nice garden, from which you also have wifi access (if it works). It's great to have breakfast or dinner here.

Room Tip: The air-cooled rooms are located in the center of the building, which looks quite nice. We had the a...

Hotel Sheela is a charming basic hotel - you get what you pay for (£10/night for double room)
Excellent food which is all food is prepared with mineral water and beautiful garden. Wifi is a bit temperamental but it's a great location - 2 minute walk to the Taj Mahal. We visited at sunrise and as your bag gets searched on arrival, you only need to bring your camera so as to avoid bag search queues.
Tips:
Bring a padlock for your bedroom - they do provide you with one
Bring a kirkoy to use as a sheet - they provide a pillow and under sheet but nothing to have over you
Recommend booking an AC room - we had an air cooler and it was noisy and got warm....

You cannot access the hotel directly with a cab. Cars may not enter the area arround the Taj Mahal, so either you walk a bit or take a Riksha to the hotel. Within the hotel area it is very quite and you can relax in the garden. There is a hotel restaurant which hasn't the best food in the world but it is okay and because of the silence there we mostly ate there. The rooms were very clean and they are not too expensive (Just a few ants and sometimes geckos entered the room but compared to other places in india this is actually not even worth to mention). I would definately go back there again. It was a recommendation of a friend and I can recommend it to you guys as well.
