You cannot access the hotel directly with a cab. Cars may not enter the area arround the Taj Mahal, so either you walk a bit or take a Riksha to the hotel. Within the hotel area it is very quite and you can relax in the garden. There is a hotel restaurant which hasn't the best food in the world but it is okay and because of the silence there we mostly ate there. The rooms were very clean and they are not too expensive (Just a few ants and sometimes geckos entered the room but compared to other places in india this is actually not even worth to mention). I would definately go back there again. It was a recommendation of a friend and I can recommend it to you guys as well.

We stayed there for one night only (thank God!) and were glad to leave! The room was dirty, smelling damp, with all kinds of bugs and ants. The bathroom was even more terrible, really old and decrepit, we barely dared to take a shower. Ok, we only took a fan room but it was so badly isolated that even at night it was still hotter inside than outside, we just couldn't breathe (nor sleep). It was the worst night of our 8 months trip! The staff wasn't really friendly and even tried to charge us 20Rs for a pair of (used) shoe cover to visit the Taj Mahal (they are given for free at the entrance!). In short, don't go there because it's the "top choice" in the Lonely Planet, it seems like it changed a lot in recent years...

Given that it was winter, I would have preferred to stay somewhere warmer. We had to switch rooms to get a better shower. The location was solid. I have to imagine there are better places to stay but I survived.

We spent two nights in two double rooms. The location on the hotel is just great, only 100 m from the eastern gate of Taj Mahal. Prices were very reasonable. Garden also very nice and quiet.

Only minus was that there was a very bad toilet smell from the area at night time. Maybe a one-timer, but not nice...

Good value hotel, clean, very basic (bring your own soap and toilet paper). The garden outside is nice. The staff were not particularly helpful the next day, but were nice enough. Certainly a good place to sleep for a few hours before you go to the Taj, which is a short walk away.

I stayed here for 4 nights in october 2010. Booked the room prior to departure, which apparently was a good idea, as I meet a few people who had to look somewhere else, as the hotel was fully booked...
It is not in the upper ranges and the bathroom is basic, with cold water etc. But what I really enjoyed, was the fantastic garden and the perfect location right next to the entrance to the Taj.
Maybe slightly out of this context, but Agra was a dump for me, and had it not been for the Taj, I doubt I would ever go there. And that is where the brilliant garden, with its calm and relaxed atmosphere really showed its value... As a place to retreat from the madness :-)
I had most of my meals in the garden, and I loved it, no stomach issues there, maybe luck, but it seemed just fine for me.
Aircondtion... hehe :-) That was a bit funny; looked like an old car engine ventilator, diesel, full blast through a bale of hay, through the window. But my room had a ventilator in the ceiling, so it kept me fairly cool during the nights...
I would not hesitate to stay there again, keeping in mind that it is NOT upper class 5 star, but basic accommodation right next to the Taj Mahal...

Room Tip: Splash out on the 'expensive' rooms, you're only here for a few nights and they are stil...

As a budget backpacker who has been travelling for 4 weeks through India, I would say this is pretty much representative of a budget room in India (i.e. nothing spectacular).

BUT.... the great part about this property is (1) it's metres away from the East Gate of the Taj (get your tickets the day before and head to the Taj for sunrise - INCREDIBLE), (2) this property has a lovely garden courtyard which allows you to escape from the intensity of the shop and rickshaw owners of Agra.
