I was for the first time in agra india to see the magnificence of taj mahal. I was taken aback it was august many years ago. I visited in one day tour from delhi by train with a friend of mine from kerala but living in the capital. Then last year i was again delhi and i wanted tomsee it once more. In winter is nealrly more astonishing. That was my 26th time in india lol. The monument seemed to come out from clouds all blurred but it was for the thick fog. This time i took a taxi cheap and confortable. Dont miss it! Ciao

There are few places on earth that take your breath away but the Taj Mahal is one of them. The whole site is magnificent so well preserved and rightly considered the pride of India. The carving on the building is incredibly intricate and a masterpiece which will never be bettered. Tip only a small number of tourists are permitted to enter at night so if you wish to see the dome by moonlight you must book in advance!

You don't need my review to tell u this is a great monument and a must visit for anybody coming to Agra.
However I would like to highlight a few points which made my visit not very memorable. We visited the Taj on 15th Aug and being a national holiday there was a huge huge crowd on that day. Crowd management was pathetic to say the least and as can be expected the touts were having a field day. We initially thought of going in through proper channel but soon realized that its very difficult to do so. Touts in guise of guides constantly were pestering us and reminding us that its impossible to get inside by standing in line and that they can take us inside by a side gate on payment of Rs 400/-. As it became cloudy we relented and took services of one such "Guide" He took us in through one of the side entrances where the queue was slightly shorter and where the personnel managing the entrance was probably bribed for us to bypass the short queue. The whole thing is managed by this mafia of touts and security people and when people protested about us breaking the queue, they were threatened to keep quiet in true Uttar Pradesh tradition. The parking site is a nightmare to park your cars, as agents of battery operated vehicles and tongawallahs hover around u all the time. Place is full of roadside vendors, beggars and touts. If only the government could streamline the entry and make the visit a bit enjoyable. The place outside gave a feeling of a dirty crowded Indian railway station rather a monument of national importance. Overall we had a horrible time and I feel very ashamed of having bribed my way inside
