You feel like you are living a dream. You just want to pinch yourself at the first siting to make sure the experience is real. We traveled with Tauck Tours and they gave us every opportunity to view this magnificent structure. We arrived in Agra approaching sunset and they took us to the Moon Garden across the Yamuna River to view the front of the palace. Most people start with the back view and never see the front view. The shades cast upon the structure were beautiful. We then woke up at sunrise to see the morning shades. Unfortunately it was foggy and overcast. When we returned around 9AM, it was sunny for and excellent tour and photo opts. This is a palace built around history and a love story. It is essential to have a proper guide who will discuss the history and point out the amazing lattice work, stone work, calligraphy and the gorgeous colors and dyes on the building. We appreciated the outstanding symmetry except for the tombs.
When you leave, you just keep looking back because the palace has a magnetism. You should stay at the Oberoi with a view of the Taj Mahal. You will be at your window or sipping a drink or coffee at their restaurant and continue to contemplate the view.
Couple of words of advice. If it is foggy at sunrise, it is not worth the money or long wait on line.
Also, careful with what you are carrying. The staff confiscated everything from lipstick to insect repellant. Also it might be worth your while to hire a professional photographer who knows the turf and where to take the pictures. We had 3 cameras and his shots beat all of ours.
One of the most awesome experiences of my life!
