A look at the Taj Mahal makes you wonder of the geniuses that lived in that era... make sure you sit down on the bench and capture the taj in your mind rather than your camera... a beautiful epitome..

The Taj Mahal is a fantastic sight. Everthing possible has already been said about it.

I would recommend that you take a local, licensed guide to help you get the most from your visit.

if you are offered a photographer, be careful. Agree in advance how many photos you will have to buy and what this will cost.

Do not allow the guide to persuade you to look at souvenirs. They are very overpriced. The guide will receive a payment for delivering you to the shop. He will also get a commission of around 40% of your purchases. You will pay this as part of the price.

As an example we bought 3 small marble boxes at 900 INR each after the guide took us into a store. It seemed a reasonable price. Five days later at the shopping arcade in Le Meridien in New Delhi that identical boxes were available for 400 to 500 INR. he extra that we paid went straight into the guides pocket.

Be warned!!!

As a photographer, I was delighted that it was not too crowded for my shots. The grounds are large and well-kept. A must see!!

I went in with a biased opinion that the monument will not live up to its hype.

But once reached there, I was completely blown away with the serene beauty of this white monument. When you stand in front of the raised platform, with the Taj facing you, with the sun shining in the background, its grandeur is sheer mesmerizing.

All in all, its worth every bit of the hype it gets for being a part of the Seven wonders.

Would recommend visiting early early morning to beat the heat, if you are travelling during the Indian summers.
