The Taj Mahal has to be seen to be believed. It shimmers in the light and is entirely sympatrical - except for one place. There were monkeys climbing over the gardens outside the Taj.
The only issue we had was with the hawkers who were very, very pushy and although we are used to persistence, some of our party were very uncomfortable trying to get away from them.

Entered through west gate.
Don`t forget to buy tickets from the counter at parking lot. Rs.20 for adult indians. free for children less than 15 yrs. After buying tickets, proceed to gate queue. separate queues for indians and foreigners.
had packpack with us. while we were in the queue, few locals suggested that backpacks and similar things not allowed inside, can keep them in their shop for 100 rupees and so on. Don`t fall in their trap. Once you pass the gate, there is metal detector screening and baggage screening. Once baggage is screened, you can carry them inside. No problems.
Marvellous structure and history.
No need to hire guides. Enough details are mentioned in books like lonely planet. Marble work details are provided by previous trip advisor postings. Would be helpful if you had gone through them.
3-4 marble benches are there before you reach tajmahal. Take photographs near them, even if you don`t manage to get the benches. Local photographers may charge upto 100 rupees per photograph.
Once inside, before entering tajmahal, have to deposit footwear in the counter on right hand side.
Spend your own time admiring the overwhelming mahal.

When visiting the Taj Mahal, there are no words to capture the feeling of the first moment your eyes set sight upon the immensely beautiful architecture. All I could do was marvel at the beauty before my eyes. It was spectacular, despite the large crowds. As you approach the monument, there is an unexplainable curiousity which builds up inside you, yearning to discover what lies within the immaculate walls. And when you get within arms length of the Taj Mahal, the marble artwork is astounding, so intricate and detailed. Sheer brilliance & absolute perfection. At the back of the monument, you can view the palace across the river, which by itself is a beholding sight. I simply could not believe my eyes! We sat in the gardens to take in the beauty of the Taj Mahal, and every second felt like a dream was dancing before your eyes. A note of caution whilst at the Taj Mahal, you will more than likely encounter various tour guides and photographers begging for a chance to offer their services to you - excersise patience and diligence when dealing with them. I still look at my pictures and am lost in the pearlescent beauty of the famous Taj Mahal :)

Extremely mesmerising structure. We visted this in the evening and it looked so much elegant. You cannot stop admiring the Taj and appreciating the artisanship. Brilliant.

Just that it was a little too crowded for comfort, however what the heck, everyone wants a glimpse of this beauty.

The trip from Delhi to Agra was enjoyable thru the new expressway, however once in the city of Agra the traffic is horrible, extremely poorly managed and lead roads upto the Taj are pathetic. The local administration could have done much much more over the years to ease congestion. The touts can really bug you. But at the end the sheer beauty of the monument can make you forget everything else.
