“Easy to get lost here”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for 2 nights at beginning of March. We had a good welcome and nice room but the hotel is HUGE and we really prefer smaller style hotels. Many people were getting lost in the long corridors and the lift didn't have any indication as to which floor reception was located on so some times we (and others) got out on the wrong floor. This would be a simple fault to rectify. Breakfast selection was good as were meals in restaurants, we especially enjoyed the experience we had in the Chinese Restaurant.

I arrived at the hotel after a long drive from Delhi and was immediately shown to my room and given a welcome drink. Walking down the long corridors from the main lobby, one can marvel and the fantastic Indian traditional artwork that lines the corridors.

The hotel is situated on very expansive lawns with plenty of nice nooks and water fountains. The main hotel lobby is a white marble building with the restaurants, the hotel bar and the breakfast cafe. The staff is friendly and always ready to help.

The room was spacious, well appointed and bright. The coffee machine, tea supplies and air conditioning was adequate. While the rooms look a tad tired, they were well maintained and clean.

Breakfast is a huge plus. Vast variety overlooking the lawns and we did observe some peacocks and peahens as well. The food was authentic but spicy.

The main attraction of Agra - The Taj Mahal, is 5 -8 minutes drive from the hotel. However, vehicles are not allowed all the way to the Taj and you must alight and walk.

Overall a nice hotel

We visites Agra for a business meeting. All the common areas are great. The rooms are confortable but simple. The gardens around the hotel are peaceful and very well kept. Service was excellent! Not the most luxurious hotel we have stayed in but it grows on you! It was great to be able to sit outside and relaxe for a few minutes between meetings. I would go back!

We stayed in this hotel during a busy tour of the golden triangle, and were really glad we did. The gardens are extensive and beautifully kept, and the whole place provided a lovely respite from the hustle and bustle of Agra.
Our room was large, clean and well equipped, with a lovely outdoor seating area.
There are several restaurants here - we had a fantastic meal in the Indian one. The service and live music were great.

Room Tip: It's a large hotel, so maybe request a room near reception if you have any mobility issues.

We stayed at the Jaypee for 2 nights as part of a work conference. Since I wasn't paying for it, I won't comment on the VFM aspect. However, there is a lot more to write about this property.

First of all, it's really large. I've stayed in quite a few 5-stars over the years, but never in a property this expansive. Even after two days, most of us would get lost, especially trying to find shortcuts! Secondly, the property is old and was under going renovation. Not that it inconvenienced us in anyway, but one can expect better things in future. In fact, the sales GM assured us that the outdated TV's in our rooms were in the process of being replaced with much needed large screen LCD's and DTH. Rooms were excellent, with individual balconies and lovely views of gardens. Food was excellent too - wide choice and totally 5-star level. Only area of improvement would be the occasional coarse replies one would get from the junior waiters - partly western UP influence, partly lack of training in 5-star etiquette. Having said that, liked the personal touch of a housekeeping girl coming by and asking if I needed something....sweet : )
Overall, excellent!

We had asked for a no smoking room with a king bed. On arrival we were told that our room had been given to some dignitary and the only room we could have was a room with twin beds but with a view. The room was not clean, had mosquitoes and the safe had been removed without the knowledge of the staff. We threatened to move out and within minutes we were assigned a clean room with a king bed. But this room was cold and we were given extra blankets and an electric blanket. It took us about three hours to settle down.
The internet did not work for three days and we were offered different explanations for the problem.
The swimming pool was under repairs and could not be used.
Over all bad management with poor several untrained staff.

Room Tip: Over rated hotel with poor management
