We stayed one night at Amarvilas during the first week of 12/05. Upon arrival, we discovered that the hotel mistakingly assigned us a regular room instead of the room with the terrace we were supposed to have, but Oberoi staff were very helpful and rectified the situation immediately. Seeing the Taj at sunset from the terrace with the haunting call to prayer in the background was enchanting. We ate at Esphahan, the Indian restaurant in Amarvilas, and found the food to be excellent. Without drinks or dessert, it cost approximately $40 USD for two meals. And the bed and pillows were the most comfortable in India and most other places we've travelled. Given that its a five star hotel with a view (and close proximity) of a World Heritage site, we didn't expect bargains here, but we felt Amarvilas was worth the stay.
