“Spectacular!”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

Arriving at the Oberoi is more like arriving at a movie set for one of the great adventure films from an earlier age. The architecture is spectacular as is the landscaping. The magical Taj Mahal hovers just outside most of the windows. The Service is an example for most other hotels to live up to and the food is spectacular. Sitting on a balcony in the evening with a cocktail in hand you can easily imagine that you are a pasha in the old Raj. This is a true bucket list experience. Prices are very high but this is a unique property; however, you can find some wonderful deals if you arrive during lousy seasons or search close to the time of your trip.

such a great property built right opposite to the Taj Mahal.
we see the east side of the Taj Mahal from every part of the hotel. Truly 'Paisa Vasool'
food quality is superb luckily not overcharged.
you see anywhere in the hotel premises, not even a single part is left uncovered. beautiful designing overall.
one of the best stays so far.
I stayed in ITC Mughal the last night, although it is three times cheaper than the Amarvilas, I personally liked it there.

Room Tip: Pick any room as it won't matter much since each room has a Taj Mahal view. I stayed in the pre...

My friend and I stayed at the Oberoi in Agra for a day in the month of June. The best thing about the hotel is that every room has a view of the Taj Mahal. I was upgraded to a premiere room with a balcony. The service of the hotel was excellent. I remember that I had an eye infection due to the heat but the the staff at the hotel brought me medication even without me asking them to get it for me. The restaurant at the hotel was good. Whenever I visit a hotel now, I always compare it to the Oberoi Amarvillas and the only hotel that comes to my mind that has similar customer service is the Leela Palace, New Delhi. The Oberoi in Agra is definitely worth staying at if you are visitng Agra for more than a day. Indeed a great experience.

Room Tip: Get a room with the balcony.

This is a perfectly fine hotel. But by the standards of Indian luxury hotels, supremely ordinary. The rooms and public spaces are like a four star US chain hotel. The restaurant is ok, but not as great as could be. The service and people are lovely. Their claim to fame is that every room looks out over the Taj Mahal, which is true, but that is not lit at night. And at this price, you can stay in a fabulous palace anywhere else in India. I would stay at another luxury hotel and the visits you will make to the Taj will be just as wonderful.

Just had another wonderful stay, 3 nights at The Oberoi Amarvilas and very much enjoyed the experience. Excellent food, courteous well trained team, great location, and very clean rooms....all the things on my list for a truly great resort. The staff go above & beyond with charming little touches that make a holiday memorable, from showing the young son of my fellow traveller how to tie a turban to emailing recipes of our favourite Indian dishes and having a 'welcome back' chocolate cake appear at dinner on our first evening makes you feel all warm and fuzzy about the whole experience. The pool was a welcome relief from the heat of June weather and the buddy service to the Taj was appreciated especially on the way back when we had to outrun the roadside hawkers. Well done Oberoi Amarvilas, we will certainly stay again soon. Nearly forgot to mention for anyone that hasn't stayed at an Oberoi, their policy on tipping and service charge is very special, no personal tips for staff but at the end of your stay you place your tips in an envelope for sharing, nice touch and it works, I forgot and tried to offer the young housekeeper who had just done a great morning service the usual tip and she ever so politely declined. All good we didn't want to leave:)

Room Tip: Try the restaurants the food is amazing. Always upgrade to a balcony so that you can sit and enjoy t...

This place is AWESOME!
The Taj Mahal view is amazing but it is everything else at the hotel that justifies the stay.
Perfect rooms, great service and amazing atmosphere.
Both restaurants are great.
Spa is very very good!
2 downs: fitness center is small and our Yoga class teacher simply did not showed up. And in India this is just ok. That was a big down for us...and the hotel simply said the teacher is coming for 30 min until we decided not to wait anymore.
Other than that everything else was perfect.

Room Tip: All rooms are amazing!

It would be impossible to overstate the experience provided by this hotel. The service, architecture, location, complimentary yoga instruction, and welcome ceremony (including saffron bindi), among other thing, all make it an iconic lifetime experience for even the most seasoned traveler.

It is expensive, but you have surly paid far more for memories you will treasure far less.

The Taj Mahal is extraordinary as much for what it is as how it has escaped the banality of cliché. For 350 years, this monument evokes a sense of wonder. Only by being there can you witness its true majesty, its symmetry, its setting and the delicacy of its carved marble inlaid with precious stones. Now just suppose you were to overlook it from your hotel room? The Oberoi Amarvilas is 600 metres from this tribute to love. The lavish interiors and elaborate gardens add to the serenity of the scene. The guestrooms are palatial: all have magical views and are luxuriously furnished with traditional fabrics, white marble, hand-crafted ornaments and every modern amenity. There is a luxury spa offering a range of therapies, a swimming pool where snacks and drinks are served; an ornamented ballroom and fine restaurants to suit the international palate.
