We spent 4 days at the Oberoi. It wasn't cheap, but you get what you pay for. This hotel was the highlight of our 2.5 week tour of India. The scene upon arrival at night was breathtaking. The next morning the property was just as incredible. The views of the Taj, the un-paralleled service, the grand property itself made the Oberoi an unforgettable experience. Perfect.

The only thing that could have been better during our stay was the spa. It was almost $300 for a couples massage that was average at best.

The only downside of our experience was the commute from Dehli to Agra. I had read in the travel books that it was approximately a 2 hour drive which I thought was doable. I contacted the Oberoi to arrange transport for us (the driver and vehicle were great). It was a 3.5 hour hair-raising drive to Agra and approximately 4.5 hours back. The whole transportation system in India has alot of room for improvement. They use unmarked speed bumps to control the speed of traffic so be prepared to be airborne.

Ask the hotel to arrange a tour guide for the Taj. It was very cheap and made the whole experience quite educational.

The Amarvilas was the first of 5 Oberoi hotels we started at during our 2 weeks traveling around northern India and it was good indication of the high quality of service we experienced throughout our trip.

We were greeted with refreshing towels and a cold drink before being shown to our room for check in. We had a premier room (425) with a balcony and (once the fog lifted) we had the most incredible view of theTaj Mahal from our room.

The room and corridors felt a little dated but well maintained and the staff were fantastic - they couldn't have been more helpful or polite!! The grounds are stunning - especially the water features near the entrance and also the pool area.

We had dinner in the main Indian restaurant which was reasonably good and we had breakfast on our terrace the next morning which was fabulous, given the view!

The hotel provides an electric vehicle to transport guests to the entrance of the Taj Mahal. Pictures of theTaj Mahal do not do it justice - you have to say it for yourself as its breathtaking!

I would recommend this hotel for a stay in Agra given its excellent service, stunning grounds and great location.

Room Tip: Room 425 was perfect if you want a view of theTaj!

all of us in our travel group wanted another night at this hotel....Ask for a room with a view of the Taj Mahal. We were told it took Mr. Oberoi forever to buy this particular piece of land and he waited patiently until he got exactly what he wanted...There is a forested piece of land between the hotel and the Taj Mahal so the view of the Taj Mahal is unobstructed by other commercial development. It was magical to see the Taj at daybreak and at sunset. The service and amenities at this hotel are a match in quality and beauty with every other Oberoi we visited..We seriously just wanted to hang out a bit longer than our tour allowed...It's a luxury hotel on a par with a Ritz Carlton or a Four Seasons or similar luxury hotel in the US...Actually, the service is probably better...Certainly less patronizing, condescending, and 'real' in its hospitable attitude than many of the US equivalents...The facilities are first rate in all areas...spas, restaurants, bed quality and room quality and bathroom quality...you will be well treated....

Room Tip: I think all rooms may have a view of the Taj Mahal but be sure to ask for a view room...once in a li...

I stayed here during a short trip to the Taj Mahal. It is just a short trip in a Tuc Tuc to the Taj and the town centre. Out of all the hotels I have visited I found the staff here to be the most welcoming. Everyone was just so nice. The rooms were very very lush and clean as well as the public areas.

I would strongly recommend this hotel if you are intending traveling to Agra

During a 2 week trip to India decided to splurge on a weekend trip to Agra. As I stayed in Oberoi/Trident during most of the trip, the Amarvillas - which supposedly has 7 stars, appeared a logical choice - allthough the price was steep.

The location - within walking distance of east gate from the Taj is great - as is the golf cart service. However, given their status I was expecting nothing but excellence in their service, and for me they did not exceed what I got at the Oberoi Delhi or the Trident in Guargon. Yes, the staff is extremely helpful and the hotel is superbly maintained, but I expected nothing less.

Some examples - staff in the restaurant could not remember who had ordered which dish at our table of two, no receipt in the room by the butler with a cool drink, at first, we could not get a table in the restaurant on the night of our arrival as the restaurant was booked solid (as they explained to me) - but after mentioning we were staying there and in multiple other Oberoi hotels, somehow we had our table. The restaurant was not anywhere near capacity with at least 40% of tables empty.

The pool area is gorgeous, the upkeep superb, but all in all - I would probably search for a different property in Agra next time.

If you are coming to Agra to see the Taj Mahal this is the hotel of choice! We were not disappointed with either our room, the staff, the meals or the facilities. The extra cost of a balcony room was very good value as it allowed us to relax and simply enjoy the ambiance of the Taj. At your convenience, the hotel staff will take you over to the entrance gates in the hotel golf cart. We went early, 6 am, as the Taj becomes very busy later in the morning. At 6 am, we still had to wait in line. Considering the "cost" of getting to Agra, the extra cost of staying at the Oberoi Amarvilas is minimal and well worth the investment. Next time, we would stay 2 nights so that we could enjoy the gardens and spa/pool facilities. Wonderful, wonderful staff who are well trained and simply delightful. Thank you.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and select a balcony room. All the rooms have a view of the Taj and are total luxury.

The Taj Mahal is extraordinary as much for what it is as how it has escaped the banality of cliché. For 350 years, this monument evokes a sense of wonder. There is a luxury spa offering a range of therapies, a swimming pool where snacks and drinks are served; an ornamented ballroom and fine restaurants to suit the international palate.
