“Best position near Taj Mahal”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

We stayed one night in order to be able to see Taj Mahal both at sun-rise and sun-down. Hotel is wonderful in all aspects; service, rooms, restaurant etc. We had a good view of Taj Mahal from our room on 4th floor. We had Indian lunch and Dinner - both was very nice. The dinner we had on our balcony with a view over the Taj Mahal.

Be aware of Agra - a terrible town that you should avoid. Dirty, poor, awful traffic etc.

Agra Fort is interesting with a good view of Taj Mahal.

This hotel lived up to its unbelievable reputation! Incredible pool and grounds, service and staff were friendly, helpful and cheerful. Both restaurants served food of exceptional quality. I would highly recommend the location as it is very close to the Taj Mahal and also has breathtaking views of the Taj. An absolute must if you are looking for the BEST!

What property, just fabulous, maintained impeccably. Lawns so beautiful with absolute clear blue water flowing down towards the lovely pool. While did not stay there but the time spent was worth it. Besides Taj & the Agra Fort this property is worth in any visitor's itinerary specially during the weekends when it is now open for Breakfast & Lunch for Non Residents (NR's) also. The view of the Taj from the lobby in mind blowing. Had breakfast and was worth every penny spend. Huge spread, excellent options, fresh & delicious coupled with extremely courteous & smiling service never allowed us to feel like visitor's. Just extraordinary & for sure the stay at next visit will be there & hope I am sure I will have much more nicer things to say. No wonder it is rated as one of the best hotels across the globe.----Deepak Mehrotra

We stayed here for just one night in a balcony room, which had a great view of the Taj Mahal. An impressive building and equally impressive complex, the Oberoi has quite a reputation that we didn't quite experience. Admittedly, we only stayed the one night but I can't say I was as impressed as I was with the three Taj properties we stayed at. That said, it is a beautiful setting with manicured gardens and a unique placement relative to what must be the most beautiful building in the World. Our room was lovely and the bathroom was quite grand.

Room Tip: While every room does indeed have a view of the Taj Mahal, this view is impacted by the tree line, s...

The Amarvilas is a beautiful hotel with an exceptional level of service. From the moment you drive onto the property, every detail of your stay is managed by the very friendly and professional staff. The hotel's proximity to the Taj Mahal and great view from every room is what drew us there, but the lovely pool and extremely comfortable rooms made us want to stay! We had a late train out of Agra and, because it was monsoon season and not very busy, the hotel readily let us keep our rooms until 6 PM. We spent an afternoon by the pool, and in addition to complimentary water and sunscreen, we were treated to mango ice cream. We ate in both restaurants and thought the food was good in both, though a bit overpriced at Esphahan (however, the live traditional music created a great atmosphere, and made up for the price.) I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Taj Mahal... it is well worth it!

If we are honest, the vast majority of us would not have gone to Agra if it was not for the Taj Mahal. Many of us travel vast distances to get there and want to spend as much time as possible seeing it so an ever present view of the Taj Mahal was a major influencing factor in our decision to stay here. Added to this, was the closeness of the hotel to the site which was within 5 – 10 minutes walking distance or 2 minutes by courtesy golf cart. The quality of the hotel was then an added bonus to its location and our only regret was that we did not stay long. From our experience and feedback from friends, travel agents seem to want to get you into Agra for one night and then get you out of there as soon as possible. We had to be quite assertive in booking extra nights because we wanted to just enjoy the Taj Mahal without feeling under pressures of time. With hindsight, we would have booked a further night just to enjoy the opulence of the hotel, gardens and swimming pool and we would recommend a 3 night stay at least. It may be best to avoid February or book very early as friends have been unable to get a room in the hotel for February 2013.
With regard to the hotel, our room was, quite simply, stunning. Furniture was of the highest quality and the bed both huge and extremely comfortable. People at the hotel were very welcoming, including the manager who made an effort to come and speak to us on the balcony just after we arrived. Public rooms are of an equally high standard and it is a pleasure to just sit in these with a drink or cup of tea. Service was amazing. Our room was serviced several times during the day and was kept spotlessly clean. We even had a butler who was very keen to help but the hotel was just so good we struggled to find anything for them to do. What really impressed us was the tipping policy where guests are asked to put one overall tip into a communal pot at the end of their stay. A much better system.
We did manage to get a half day by the pool which is one of the most amazing I have ever seen. We were provided with complimentary sun screen, other cosmetics (far grander than I have made that sound) and water. Lunch by the pool was served with real style on wicker trays (again, far grander than I have made it sound). The pool had a number of open rooms if the sun is too hot and is fed by fountains. As said above, we would have liked to have spent at least another day by the pool.
There is a limited choice with regard to meals and, having read some unfavourable reviews, we did not book a meal in the more exclusive restaurant. The breakfast buffet was very good with a large choice and regularly refreshed. Dinner options were a little more restricted and, surprisingly for India, I found the vegetarian choices limited. However, this is a minor point.
Overall, a simply wonderful experience and, if we win the lottery, we will be taking up permanent residence.

It is an extraordinary , well kept facility with great views of the Taj Mahal.

The service was outstanding an the food was among the best.

The private balconies are great for relaxing. The pool area is superb coupled with well maintained gardens.

Room Tip: Choose floors above the third level with a balcony. They have a better view of the Taj Mahal.

The lavish interiors and elaborate gardens add to the serenity of the scene. The guestrooms are palatial: all have magical views and are luxuriously furnished with traditional fabrics, white marble, hand-crafted ornaments and every modern amenity. There is a luxury spa offering a range of therapies, a swimming pool where snacks and drinks are served; an ornamented ballroom and fine restaurants to suit the international palate. But the lobby lounge is a feast for the eye designed, as it was, around that glorious view of the Taj Mahal. ... more   less
