“One of the most wonderful stays”
Reviewed December 3, 2008

I stayed at the Mughal Agra with my family earlier this year and we all agreed it was the best stays we have had among the luxury hotels we have stayed at. I booked it through the starwood preferred guest program and the experience was wonderful from the booking exec to the staff at the Mughal. They gave us room upgrades, extended check-out time, brought welcome drinks and did everything they could to make the family feel valued, welcomed, and happy. The staff is fabulous and knows what a family with kids would be needing. The spa is one of the best in the country and the architecture of the hotel makes it a perfect fit for the historic city it is based in. Overall, excellent!

I would agree with many of the reviews here. The Taj is an oasis of calm in th chaos of Agra.

Some of the areas are quite dated & the room price is high but the service was superb. Each member of staff we encountered could not do enough to help us.

The room we had was spacious & fairly luxurious. Maybe not to the standard of the Shangri-La in Delhi but still very good. Some areas in the rooms need slight attention but the hotel is quite old.

The restaurant on the lower ground floor was excellent. We ate here twice & really enjoyed it.

We loved our stay at the ITC. Much of our room cost was covered by hotel points so we are not sure how much the place really costs. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly. The grounds are a wonderful place to just walk around and take in the flowers, birds etc. Breakfast buffet was varied and good. It was an oasis among the crazy and full streets of Agra.

Very large hotel with professional, well presented and polite staff.

This hotel must have been attractive when it was first opened to the public, however, it is now very out dated and in urgent need of up grading throughout!

The bedroom was a good size and generally quite nice, but the bathroom wasn't very nice and the ceiling looked very delicate above the bath.

Generally the breakfast was very nice and food was good too but all the restaurants (there were 4) were all very out dated and lacked any atmosphere. It did not make the dining experience very enjoyable, as I couldn't wait to leave the dining room.

Generally a decent experience!

I stayed in 4 hotels in 1 week in India. I have come to find that the nice ones have outstanding service and food, but the buildings themselves are old and dated. The ITC Mugal Sheraton in Agra is no exception, well, almost not.

Our company had planned an excursion to the Taj Mahal for us from New Delhi. We took India Expeditions. India-expeditions.com and would again. The driver who picked us up from the airport and stayed with us for 3 days also drove us to the Taj Mahal. Avoid going by car if you can. Its 4 hours and you will be handing your life to the driver in the process. Indian driving is insane.

We arrived at the hotel and it looked like it had been built in the 80's. Still, they welcomed us with chocolates, and a rice drink and showed us to our rooms. 2 double beds. the room was decent size, a little cramped, but nice. the bathroom was dated and the bedroom had some strange floor couch on it that you had to step on to draw the blinds.

I am a sucker for a good shower head and this one was good.

We had a drink in the hotel bar in the lobby and the elderly bartender made a truly awesome cosmopolitan. I know how these drinks should be made. He told us he was going to make it special for us and he did not disappoint.

We had dinner in the Majohg restaurant. Avoid it. Its overpriced hotel food and wasn't that good. Surely not $70 for 2. The breakfast buffet down stairs was great though. Try the rice dumplings, with the soup and the green chutney/curry sauce. So tasty.

Another thing I look for in a hotel is the gym. I work out every day back home and I like to do the same when I am on the road. They have just completed building a 90,000 sq foot spa. The gym here is great. Its new and has glass walls. you can look out onto these beautiful fountains and gardens while you run. Also, there is a good range of machines and cardio equipment.

Another nice feature of this place is that there are 2 pools (go to the one by the spa, its much prettier) and the acres of gardens. Ok, so its all dated, but at least its pretty, right?

Our Taj Mahal guide's name was either Nevin or Nabim. He was great and had an answer for any question. Although he took us to "see the artisans that build the Taj" which is really code for taking you to buy things.

The hotel to stay at in Agra is the Oberoi, but its super expensive. the ITC sheraton is a good second choice.

I can only echo what other reviewers have said about this hotel, and confirm its very comfortable rooms, excellent location and attentive efficient staff. Relaxing by the pool we saw two Mongoose (Mongeese, Mongooses) sorting out the stray wildlife. Tried the Chinese restaurant (us not the Mongoose) and thought the food ordinary but excellent service. The buffet dinner was just OK but overall a very acceptable level of care and attention to all guests and a hotel I would recommend.
