“Feel like a king in ITC Mughal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2013 via mobile

Stayed in ITC Mughal very recently for a day during my visit to Agra. The hotel is located very much in the city near the cantonment area. We booked a double occupancy room with complimentary breakfast for only Rs 6500 including all taxes May due to off season. In anways I think it was 100% worth the price.

Don't need to say much about the hotel, it's a 5 star property with all the amenities that you would want in such a hotel.

Couple of things that I really liked:
1 the grad view at the reception area

2 four really good restaurant, I tried Peahwari restaurant. The food was ok but the staff is really hospitable. They take good care of their guest

3 loved the bar, try their LIT drink with 120 ml of alcohol content

4 the pool area is really nice though didn't get a chance to take a dip

5 the rooms are big and well kept and the room service is quote prompt

Only one complaint, they shut down the recreational room by 8 pm. Anyone on work trip won't be able to the hotel before that time so what s the point of having it?

This is a very large hotel with multiple wings and long corridors. The rooms were nice and comfortable. The pool looks lovely although we did not have a chance to use it. We had a good dinner at their restaurant Peshawri. Overall, a good place to stay when visiting Agra.

i booked this hotel in advance months ahead of our visit. for us it was very reasonable price. it is a beautiful hotel. it is clean and majestic looking. close to taj mahal. you could see taj from the roof top if you do not have taj view room.

Room Tip: food in the restaurants is average.

Me and my wife spend two nights here on our trip to Agra, and here's our thoughts

Three things that I liked a lot with the hotel:

* The architecture. It really does feel luxurous, especially the entrance part.
* The room. The bed was amazing, you could choose your own special pillow, the room is spacious and the bathroom is good.
* The outdoor gardens and the pool area. Lots of green areas to walk around, two nice pool areas to relax in.

Three things that really disturbed me:

* All the extra costs. On tripadvisor you can be fooled to think you have a great price for a 5-star hotel. Well, reconsider. Every little extra thing cost, and it's ridiculously expensive. A 330 ml beer in the bar - 375 rupees, a drink 800 rupees. Using internet 250 rupees pr hour. $25 pr person for breakfast is nothing but a robbery in India. The indian restaurant was great - but three times as expesive as Pinch of Spice, which is right opposite the street and serves almost as good food. They also automatically gave us a guide we didn't really want hanging around us for two days. I totally understand that it will be more expensive in a hotel than on the streets - but three time the price? Just not worth it.

* The payment of the staff. They are all on lousy salaries - i asked two of them and they both confirmed what I thought - the hotel is underpaying, making them live only on the tip. All together they probably earn good money but that leads to that every single guy in the hotel expect tip, preferably all the time - quite annoying.

* The 5-star wannabe service. They really want to be five-star. It's yes, sir, welcome, sir and how are you, sir all the way. People stand in line when you enter. Still they don't manage. Things seems uncoordinated and unplanned. Just to give one example - the check-in. We enter the entrance. We are welcomed by our "guide" that's going to help us check in. While talking to him we are met by a receptionist that welcomes us and brings us the two meters to the desk. There two other people are taking our passports checking us in while discussing with the receptionist. While waiting a 5th person is almost startling us knocking on our back serving some kind of juice while a 6th person come and ask to take our bags.None of them seems to have any coordination with the other and it all ends up messy. The same thing happened in the spa, where lots of people where running around, while none seemed to have spoken to the other.

All together this is a hotel that probably fits best for business people. I would probably choose another place next time, but given that things like the three things mentioned above doesn't bother you, it's well worth a visit.

We spent two nights at the ITC Mughal Agra in a Royal Mughal suite. The suites have a separate entrance with its own concierge and reception. This was very nice but rather spoilt by the shabby corridor which led from it to the rooms. Our suite was very nice, spacious and comfortable. There is no lift at the hotel and there were quite a few steps up to our suite. All suite guests are invited for a cocktail drink with the management, hilariously our invitation was for the night after our departure, but when we mentioned this it was quickly changed to our second night. The lady Manager was very chatty and made us feel welcome at the hotel. We particularly enjoyed the gardens surrounding the hotel where we enjoyed the flowers and the birds. We dined one evening at the Pesawri restaurant where we found the food and service good but as we were the only diners for most of our meal the atmosphere was rather strange with just the two us us and about a dozen staff. The hotel shop was also excellent. As our stay was near the start of our trip we did not buy much from the hotel shop but later realised that the quality and prices of the souvenirs, crafts etc were very good. In summary a good choice for a hotel in Agra at a reasonable price.

Room Tip: The Mughal suites are very nice and have been refurbished.

We stayed one night in mid Jan 2013 because we were in Agra to see the Taj Mahal. We wanted a reasonably priced hotel and this is what our travel agent booked for us. We didn't like staying here. These are the reasons:

We had come from staying at The Imperial in Delhi so we came from the top hotel - so this might've tainted our views.

The materials used in our room were synthetic and I felt like my hair was constantly standing on end! The design is all Bollywood and glitz, but I found it uncomfortable and business like. The floors were fake plastic wood lookalike. The curtains shiny polyester. The sofa and cushions also polyester. At least we had cotton sheets on the bed! The colours were gray and silver and mauve, which were very cold and uncosy.

At night, with lights out, the smoke detector had a permanent green light on over the bed that lit up the whole room - perhaps the worst part of our stay, and spoiled my sleep.

You could not open the windows so we were stuck with stale air and aircon.

What I did like about the room was the bathroom - huge and spacious and the most fantastic shower with three different shower heads!

The restaurants in the hotel were not great. We ate at the horribly touristy Peshawri, sister restaurant to the famous Bukhara in Delhi. The food was mediocre and very expensive, and the atmosphere was boring. We also ate lunch in Taj Bano, also used for serving breakfast. We made it clear that we needed to eat in a hurry because we had a tour, but the food took forever to arrive and it wasn't very tasty. Breakfast was ordinary.

The entrance area is impressive, but there was nowhere cosy to sit to enjoy being among other tourists.

If the air is clear, do go up to the observatory deck to see the Taj Mahal. The weather was foggy when we were there so we couldn't see it unfortunately.

This hotel was very palatial and ornate. It was difficult to find your way around, we found, as there were not many signs and it was laid out in a large square around the pool. The price of the drinks was much higher than at any other of the six hotels we stayed at in our visit to India. The bathroom photo somebody else put on here could have been the same room as we stayed in,as it was a bit grubby round the bath edges and tile joints. We had to pay a lot for Wifi. I cannot understand this in a hotel which seemed to be primarily for business. The food was good. Pillows lovely and soft.
