The high standards was in line with other itc hotels in India. Peshwari restaurant is a must, the layout, ambience and food is excellent.

I've stayed at five-start hotels before, and this hotel is certainly nestled in that category. The concierge and front desk service were excellent, the landscaping beautiful (the atrium is lovely!), and the restaurants were tasty and terrific.

Probably the only negative I can muster is that the rooms are a wee bit old and could use a renovation. You can see that the furniture is starting to get worn down, and the fixtures in the bathroom are a little rusty. Aside from that, however, my experience at the ITC Agra was wonderful and I encourage you to visit.

Excellent place for special occasions! when you're in the mood to splurge, make sure you hit the SPA here... we missed our appointment coz of our travel from Delhi, but the next time we're up at Delhi, we want to travel to Agra JUST For the SPA at ITC Mughal.
The food is excellent, the ambience is very lovely around the park. Post dinner we took a stroll around the gardens and it was very lovely, except for ofcourse that Agra in itself is a very noisy place so there was this constant loud music blaring away somewhere around.
We booked online, so got some really good prices compared to their usual rack rates. Me and wifey dear, both very pleased about our decision to stay at ITC.
Excellent job by Sanjeev and his entire team. Kudos and keep it up! We look forward to seeing you again!

ITC Mughal
I had written the below first but i should mention first off that upon checking out the manager asked if we had feedback to which i told them about the water, reception not answering the phone and the cold. He gave us the lunch from banjo's for free. One thing I did notice was that prior to editing the bill they were going to charge us tax on the post tax amounts from the restaurants. After amending the bill we weren't charged tax on the post tax amounts... Not sure what the go is there but worth keeping an eye on, and did appreciate the free lunch by way of apology for the other issues.

Stayed in a garden room which looked nice enough. Quite roomy and location wise is pretty close to the taj mahal - you'll need a car/driver but you could walk it in half an hour. The overall ambience is quite nice and the lobby looks good too.

When we got in the shower curtain was on the bed and the towels etc weren't in the bathroom. A cleaner came in and he mustve realised that he forgot because he then wanted to clean the room.

The room was freezing (it was an unusually cold day though) and they had no heating. We had to keep calling reception and no one would answer. When we eventually walked to reception they arranged for a portable heater to be brought down.

No complimentary wifi. But you can get it for IR600 for 24 hours.

When I went to have a shower the water was yellow. Not a tinge of yellow, but full on pee like yellow. Rang reception and they answered this time and said you had to keep running the water running. It eventually went to a normal colour after 5-10 minutes.

The hotel had three blackouts when we stayed. One laSted for half an hour and no staff came around to give out lights or candles. So not sure if they have a generator or not... Then an alarm went off and the doors closed.

We also asked to have dinner at the restaurant Persharwi, and the lady told us they were full booked which we and the attendant who brought us to the lady thought was strange. When we went to the restaurant later they had room and let us have a table... Not sure if it was because we weren't well dressed at the time we asked but thought that was pretty poor.

Service at the restaurant Pesharwi was good, as was the food. Food at the other restaurant Taj Bano however wasn't very good. Service was good there though.

Overall service at the hotel was disappointing, particularly given the level and price at which they aim to cater to.

we stayed at the itc mughal as the taj gateway didn't have rooms available for the dates we were checking. but once we got there we were so happy it worked out that way! one the property was huge and nice and the taj property looked very boring, usual from the outside!

itc is a large, meandering property.... with gardens, walkways, fountains... the spa is huge and the massage was very good. so we were extremely happy. it is expensive, but a nice experience!

the rooms are nice and spacious. even though we stayed in the most basic accommodation we had a lot of space. the bathrooms are large and airy - clean and as one would expect from a 5 star. the concept of choosing your own pillow is nice, we did ask for a thinner pillow, though we got something very similar to what we anyway had in the room. but the thought was nice! none of the rooms have a view of the taj... but there is a viewing point if you go high onto the roof... nice to look, but they haven't invested in making it a nice sit-out, so not a place you want to linger. more a trip up the stairs and then you come down again!

we had a booking for two nights, but our flight got delayed so we arrived only at 1.20 am (past midnight) so we were billed for just one night. while we pointed that out at the reception, they still didn't change the bill. don't know if that was an error or them being sweet about it. either ways we were happy :D

the food was good. they have peshawari - so the dal bukhara doesnt get better than that! and of course the kebabs. even for vegetarians like us! the breakfast is a large spread and they dont have everything in the buffet, so somethings are made hot and served. the multi-grain dosa is a really good. no oil but yet crisp - a total must-do! the sambar was good one day and bad the other, so not consistent, but guess our tamil palate is rather particular.
we ordered a brownie with icecream, but were sadly disappointed. not that great a brownie!

overall a lovely experience and we are glad we stayed there.

It is hard to beat a room in the new wing of the hotel. Our room included a sitting room with large TV (one in the bedroom as well). The living room had ample sitting room, a desk and a mini bar. The bedroom offered a lounge window seat to stretch out and read. Linens were luxurious, you can ask for a hard or soft bed and a choice of pillows. Baths were spacious but lighting for make up could have been better.

The spa in the hotel is well known .The Passage to India treatment, however, was a big disappointment. This is one of their top services and not worth the time or expense.Infact, it was painful. The spa environment can't be beat for luxury. Check out the services before you opt for one!

Room Tip: Request the new wing. The rooms with sitting rooms are 5 star!

Things were on our side when we checked into this hotel in the lean period. That meant having the hotel mostly to ourselves and being attended to diligently by a personal butler, whose impeccable service came with the suite. If I remember right, her name is Aastha.

Knowing a little about contemporary Indian architecture, I can tell you that the hotel is designed by some of the most prolific Indian architects (a team of them). The hotel has gone through a couple of renovations since it was first built. My father had stayed here ages ago and had similar things to say about it as I would now.

The whole hotel campus is spread over a large area, burnt red brick on the outside along with thick foliage to match. The inside is reminiscent of the regal days of the yore- be it the ubiquitous marble inlay that Agra is so famous for, or opulent effects transporting one to the days of the Raj. The swimming pool was very welcoming.

The staff's service particularly adds to this and makes the whole experience royal. They have been trained well. Much of the staff (particularly at the restaurants) have been with the hotel probably since its beginning and still carry the traditions of the glory days of the 70s and 80s. You will see it in how their white-gloved hands place a plate in front of you, how they carry a towel on their arms, pull the chair for you or address you.

The suite was exquisite. It was spacious, well laid out, beautifully done up and the royal theme continued to the smallest of details. There were fresh fruits every day (crispy, juicy apples from the orchards of Himachal) and the mini bar wasn't as pricey as expected. The bathroom was modern and very well equipped (separate tub and rain shower, the works). The living area had a massage chair along with a very comfortable couch. It was much appreciated after we returned from the visits to the Taj and Agra Fort, where we walked a great deal.

We used the concierge desk to book us a taxi for the day to take us to Fatehpur Sikri. It wasn't much more expensive than the market rates. The driver was very well trained and extremely funny and entertaining. He took great care of the one foreigner amongt us and acted as a wonderful guide- giving us tips on how to avoid touts etc.

Finally, I must mention Peshawri, unarguably the best place to go to for cuisine from the North West Frontier Province. The food could not have been more authentic. Each recipe, we could see in the open kitchen, was prepared with dedication and skill. The Dal Bukhara I had here, was the best I've ever had. The suggestions from the restaurant manager were invaluable and he made sure we left the restaurant with a smile of contentment on our faces (when I asked for Roomali roti against his recommendation of a naan, he made sure I got both on the house, just because I mentioned I hadn't had a Roomali in ages).

The Mughal wasn't only a stay, it was an experience.
