“Beautiful outside”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2014

The hotel was beautiful outside and in the courtyard. The rooms felt old, but the beds were comfy. We had an initial issue that our room had one bed and we asked for two (I was travelling with a coworker). It is unclear where the disconnect happened as it was booked by a tour company. But the hotel did find us a room with 2 beds. Dinner and breakfast were great. I was cold when I went to bed and sweaty when I woke up. I didn't think much of it, but I saw the same complaint from another review. I cannot say whether there was an issue with the ac or not.

Room Tip: Verify the bed choice

The property's staff is courteous and friendly but the property is showing its age. The room we stayed in was decorated in an old style (think late 80's early 90's). The room was not warm and worthy of 5 star classification. The mirror in the room was stained due to old age, the paint was falling off the walls inside the room and in the hallways. The restaurant in hotel was also average. The breakfast was the only aspect of the property worthy of 5 star classification. I would probably not stay at this Wyndham again as it didn't align with the quality that I have come to expect from the Wyndham brand.

We (family friends) have read the reviews online on tripadvisor and due to varied experiences we were apprehensive about our choice for Wyndham during our Holi holiday weekend, however the experience turned out to be wonderful due to following reasons:
1. there was a free upgrade to spacious Deluxe room for all our bookings (4 in all)
2. there were issues with AC and smell across 2 of the rooms, however they were addressed /resolved after making the staff aware of these issues
3. good provisioning of play area with varied activities where kids enjoyed the most
4. enjoyed the complementary disc facility along with friends
5. nicely maintained lawns with fountains and flowers

We only stayed one night here, and it was possibly wasted on us. There is more or less everything in the hotel that one could need for a prolonged stay, in respect of restaurants, bars and pool area. The rooms were a little over the top to my taste, but certainly comfortable and full of ever conceivable amenity.

The garden setting is lush and easy on the eye. Strangely, on the day that we were there we only saw about 6 other guests other than at breakfast. Probably all at the Taj Mahal!

The Wyndham Grand's name alone should be a warning - just one I chose not to heed. It sounds like a grand old seaside hotel in Brighton and in many ways it is. Let me begin by saying that the hotel is clean, the room very comfortable (Room 263 has extra space) but it is like a hotel designed by people who have never stayed in a luxury hotel.

On check-in I asked for wifi access and was then asked for my IP address, not something that I normally have on the tip of my tongue. In the end I set up a hotspot in my room and dodged the 800 Rs a day wifi charge using the free Ethernet connection

The room was large but furnished with a bizarre mixture of Victorian brutalist furniture and Mogal flourishes. Rather like Miss Marple meets Shar Jahan in 19th Century Canterbury. Do you really need a seven foot hat stand in 2014? Thankfully I never travel with out my eleven hat boxes so felt at home. The ironing board propped by the half ton shelving unit was a nice homely touch. It blended with the Miss Marple vicarage print sofas.

Stranger still were the lighting controls.

There are 12 buttons by the bed that control lighting moods and individual lamps but even when you turn everything off there seems to be some faux Tiffany desk light 100 feet away that means you have to climb out of bed to turn it off. Far madder than this, is in Room 263 there is a shower with no shower stall and a sauna/rain forest/shower/disco/sweat box/ that completely stumped me. First the water was cold then then I had a choice of music volume, lighting control, top or side jets and hand jet and a display panel that made mission control look straightforward. And not a single word of instruction. My plans for an evening of rain forest, disco, sweat box fun were dashed.

So I had a cold shower by the lavatory,, soaked all the towels and gave up.

The room also had a fully functioning Victorian style, gas effect fire that I am sure is useful but probably not when any tourists are in Agra to use it.

The restaurant is good but wildly overpriced. Is a biryani and a beer really worth 1850 RS (£18.50/$30)

The list goes on. The pool side bar doesn't serve food. The beautiful gardens have very limited seating and when I asked if the 'Open Restaurant' was open I was told yes sir it is closed. Sums the place up really.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are biggest e.g. 263. If you don't mind the pigeons nesting on your window sill. I...

We stayed at this hotel for a night as part of our Golden Triangle Tour.

I was looking forward to my stay in this property as it looks stunning on pictures.

That was my first impression when I walked in to the lobby area, but unfortunately didn't not last long.

The surroundings were beautiful in the past, but everything needs renovation. The fountains were empty and off.

The hotel was almost empty and the check in host made the common comment... I'll give you some of our best rooms...

Unfortunately we were given ground floor rooms which smelled horrible of dump.

The hotel has great potential, but needs decent management and some investment.

Posh, secluded rooms set in a lush garden. The main hotel areas are very grand (in a neo-Mughal style). Great service, food. An oasis in the bustle of Agra. The only issue was that they charge for WiFi and one night it was on the blink, but they let me use the business center for no charge.

Room Tip: The rooms off all the mini-courtyards are lovely.
