“Beautiful hotel where the staff is still working it out”
Reviewed October 8, 2013 via mobile

Beautifully grand hotel with large and spacious rooms. Our initial room smelled a little funky and the staff promptly moved us to a new room without issues.

Location is central to get everywhere you need.

Staff were all super friendly and patient; however, it seems that they are still muddling to figure out their systems and processes. While checking in, the key programming wasn't working properly, so they let us into rooms with their master while they figured it out. Once keys were ready, they only worked 1/4 times with a requisite trip back to the front desk for help (good thing it isn't too far).

Internet is a bizarre experience where they hand deliver a code and type it into your computer. TV needed 2 technicians to get working. The IT department was having to work overtime during our stay.

Luggage handling was a bit of a confusion where they don't have a proper process for matching bags to guests. So the poor fellow goes from room to room asking you to pick out your bag from his heaped cart. We finally went to seek him out to proactively retrieve our bags (after 1hr) while he was on his room to room guest hunt.

The upstairs cafe is lovely to look at. As for food an service: make sure to build time into your visit as they figure out how to boil water for tea. Even the ready-made cakes that I could spot in the glass case took forever to bring the 10 feet to our table. It's a good thing we are patient people, as grouchier travelers may have had melt downs if they were hungry or thirsty.

All in all - you get what you pay for. The accommodations are beautiful if that is what you are looking for and have loads of time to spend there waiting. So, build in the time on your schedule for the kinks in the different processes and systems to be ironed out. When they get it all sorted, the Wyndham will be a great place to stay for both accommodations and service. Until then, it doesn't quite live up to its star rating.

The other half of our group stayed at the ITC, which is just as nice (if not nicer) and they seemed to have their services all figured out. We went there for our breakfast after visiting the Taj, given our guide's recommendation and the fact that we didn't want a repeat of our cafe experience (even though breakfast was included in our rate).

This hotel is very well located near the Taj Mahal, although it´s not a five star hotel in my opinion. The rooms are very poor and badly decorated, it´s awfull! No one in the restaurant speaks english or if they speak you can´t really understand them. The reception is very nice and opulent, full of details remembering the Taj Mahal and the gardens and the swimming pool are good.

On the positive side, the room was nice and the bed was comfortable but unfortunately the room had electrical problems so we did not end up sleeping as well as we could have. This is not the level of service I would expect at a Wyndham hotel. Here is my list of complaints:

1) After checking in at 5pm, staff had to come in to fill our mini bar - we had travelled all day and just wanted to rest but people kept coming in. Why wouldn't this have been done before we checked in? And it's not like we checked in early - it was 5pm!

2) After the first staff member came to refill our mini bar, we received another visit from the housekeeping staff. He came to change our towels...we had just checked in, why would we need a change in towels? And, this guy had the nerve to tell us that he would not be working tomorrow and that he cleaned our room this morning (hinting for a tip). Ridiculous!

3) Internet cost is 800 rupees for 24 hours - what a rip off. Even at that price I tried to purchase it but it took 3 phones calls and about 30 minutes to get it to work. They had to bring in a router into our room. At least they comped the cost of internet.

4) There was an electrical problem in the room so when we turned off all the lights to go to bed, there was loud clicking and then every 30 seconds, flashes of light would appear. We had to turn off the master power switch to sleep in peace but it was hot because the A/C was off. We didn't complain that evening because it was already past 11pm. To move to a new room would have been more annoying. This kind of thing should really be checked out from time to time. I at least did the service of alerting the front desk upon check out.

Overall, staying at the Wyndham Grand Agra was a real disappointment.

This hotel was probably the most we spent on a hotel in India (and even then, it wasn't overly a lot). The hotel is on a nice property, a warm welcome from staff and a beautiful garden and pool area. Our room however, felt old and tired and stunk like mould! The air con was extremely cold, even when we turned it right up. We didn't bother complaining as we were only there one night. Breakfast was good, nice spread of Indian and western food. For what we needed it for it was fine, but after travelling around, we definitely could have paid less elsewhere and had a better room without being freezing!!

The hotel is conveniently located and away from the hustle and bustle of the city, if I could call it that.
The Garden and Hotel Reception lived up to being Grand and opulent, however the rooms and reception area were definitely not in synch
with the main area. The rooms were definitely not five star if you consider that only body wash, shampoo and conditioner was provided. No shower caps, vanity boxes. Shower was in a bath tub which did not look appealing and clean (Compared to Taj Lands End in Mumbai and Kempinski in Delhi where we had been few days before)
Towels looked old and off white. Although staff attempted to spray the rooms the Mosquitoes in the room made us very uncomfortable.
Breakfast was a disaster as the entire breakfast room was flooded from rain the night before. The stench when we opened the door was unbearable. Never mind the single ply toilet paper!

We stayed at The Wyndham for one night with the specific purpose of visiting the Taj Mahal early the following morning.
We arrived at 2pm and went straight to the pool! Good service and good, piping hot food. Full marks! Unfortunately the pool was soon overtaken by 'locals' with hoards of children playing ball games and shouting (and that was the adult men!!). Our peace was shattered and we had to retreat to our room.
The rooms are in clusters around a central landscaped area with fountains and water features - it's very pretty at night. Our room was 121 - nothing special, but functional and clean.
WiFi is available for Rup.800 per 24 hours but on our visit it was unreliable and a waste of money. We were refunded.
The food was okay - we had the buffet. Nothing special.
The water in our room never got hot so yet another hotel with lukewarm water!!

the best part about this hotel is its location from Taj mahal. its situated near VIP area away from all the hush bush of agra. the property is grand . it gives you a feel of a fort. the rooms and spacious . the pool is something to look out for. its just awesome. a walk in the joining garden is not to be missed in the morning. we loved out stay for 3 days at wyndham Grand. The staff is good but the service is slow , may be since the rooms are far from reception or whatever. you need to wait for 10-20 min if you order for anything in your room. The breakfast buffet included in our package was okz. they offer a lot of variety in the buffet but the food is not that good in taste . though we had biryani in our room and it was tasting awesome. the food is pricey. you can hear knocks from the near by rooms and knowcking sounds almost whole day . this is a little troubling . rest the place is grand and we loved staying there, let it be the morning walks in the garden, playing in the pool, evening water fountain watching and all. yup i forgot to tell do try the Jacuzzi there its real nice. we loved that.
