“Great Location, Nice People, Cheap and Comfortable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2012

We were in desperate need of finding a good place to stay in Agra that was super cheap and close enough to the Taj Mahal without being in a busy area. We found the Friends Paying Guest House online and reserved a room the night before we arrived.
After being cheated earlier in my trip I was initially hesitant about the hotel and the staff of this budget Agra Guest House. Thankfully the family who run the place were the nicest people we met on the trip and unfortunately I didn't really get a chance to talk to them properly until my last day there which was a shame.
The atmosphere was very comfortable, with cheap and tasty homemade food available any time. There is free Wifi with a TV in the main dining room. The rooms were not bad at all, especially considering the price being paid. It was clean and hot water was available if requested. The local area has some handy shops to buy water and souvenirs.
The Taj Mahal and Agra Fort are about a 20 and 30 minute walk, respectively, down the main road from the hotel. In the other direction is a shopping mall with a cinema and McDonalds.
I would definitely stay here again when I come back to Agra in the future.
Thank you to the whole Khan family: Yusuf, Bilal, Junate, Ilma Reshma and the head of the family Mr. Viqar Khan.

The staff is really slow, moody and disorganized and the bedding is really dirty! Most of the rooms are super noisy as they face the street and the staff chat loudly right outside. There is no hot water and the kitchen is terrible and overpriced!!

Room Tip: Pay the little bit extra for a much better place!!

I cannot say enough pleasant things about the staff of this guesthouse. They were all friendly, helped us catch rickshaws for us so we didn't overpay, suggested itineraries for us... But the room... was not good.

I don't know if the rooms on the second or third floors are better, but the ground level was not a pleasant experience. We were exhausted after an overnight train and tried to sleep when we got in- but it was SO NOISY we heard every move/shower/conversation in the rooms next to us, hallway, and entryway. This went for when we tried to sleep at night as well.

The bed was not comfortable, and I ended up using my travel pillow instead of the one provided because it was hard as a rock! When I went to take a shower at night- we realized our hot water tap wouldn't even turn on... and if we wanted a hot water shower, we had to inform the staff 20 minutes in advance to take one in the rooftop bathroom. I figured it wasn't worth it, not wanting to venture up to a rooftop at 11 pm for a shower. I should have though- because I found out the next afternoon, the rooftop bathroom was much nicer than the one in our room. (On top of the shower not working, our bathroom had a broken toilet seat and the sink drain emptied out onto the floor.)

We wanted to get a good night's sleep and be clean and rested for our trip to the Taj Mahal- but we were anything but that the next morning when we woke up early... See a room before you take it. If you're on a tight budget and don't mind these inconveniences, then it's perfect for you- otherwise, pay more elsewhere for a nicer room. The staff might not be as friendly, but you'll be better rested before seeing the Taj Mahal...

Room Tip: See a room before you take it and check out the bathroom as well. Make sure the taps work or else as...

Thank you to writing a Review . In our home Stay we have Many category of rooms =
She is tight budget and whats why she said i need a cheapest Room 200/ Rs for two people . but our Actually price of the Rooms is 400/ to 800/ Rs for Double Bed room . I was give her small double Bed with attached bath and free Wifi in 200/ Rupees . but she compare our Room to other Rooms ( Delux Room ) on third Floor that was 800/ rs .

I stayed hear for one night. The family that own the guest house are so warm and friendly and treat us like one if the family. Food is great . No problems, try out the banana pancake nom nom. Also I felt safe for a solo traveller . Only ten min walk to the taj. Rooms are clean and nice . You have to ask for hot water though . I would stay here again !!!!!

This is the best guest house in Agra. Cheap, clean, and well located (next to the Taj Mahal) you feel at home. The family is adorable, you have the ability to do laundry and kitchen mother very well.
Yusuf, the boy of the house is very attentive and available soon became a very good friend and you will be very good advice for planning your trip.

Cheap as chips, so if you're on a budget it's worth staying here especially as other hotels can be quite pricey in Agra. The rooms were very basic but fine and there is wifi. The staff are a mixed bag. The young guy who runs it will try and get you to go to his friend's shops and solo girl travellers might feel a bit uncomfortable around him as he comes across as a bit creepy at times. We had no problems here though. We simply arrived, headed out to see the sights and came back to sleep then left early in the morning for Jaipur. The tuk tuk driver associated with the hotel didn't turn up to take us to the train station as arranged, but we averted any drama by flagging down a passing tuk tuk which was quite lucky at 4.30am.
