“Lovely modern hotel in Agra”
Reviewed January 18, 2014

None of the hotels in Agra seemed to be particularly great but I decided on here for our 1 night stay while visiting the Taj Mahal as it seemed like a pretty good hotel and good value. It was a lot better than expected and, even though we only had the 1 night here, we really enjoyed our stay.

The room was quite small but was absolutely lovely – very modern, big comfy bed and one of the best hot power showers we had in our whole 3 weeks in India! The only problem I had with the room is that the one window was up very high with blackout blinds which meant I could hear people walking on the street in the morning but it was so dark it still felt like the middle of the night, so I would suggest asking for a room on a higher floor.

Breakfast was also one of the best out of everywhere we stayed in India. There was a selection of Western and Indian foods and, even though I didn’t try it myself (which I’m hitting myself for now), my husband says the French bread was the best he’s ever had! They also had plenty of juice which seemed to be hard to find in North India hotels for breakfast.

Even though it was a chilly night we had dinner in the rooftop restaurant as it looked lovely and had a great atmosphere with a couple of people playing drums and the sitar. My husband even got dragged up on stage to have a go at playing the sitar which was entertaining! The food was delicious and I would have eaten here every night if we had stayed longer.
We were there during winter so it was quite foggy but I’m told you can see the Taj Mahal from the rooftop when there’s a clear sky. The rooftop pool would also be a lovely place to relax when it’s a bit warmer.

For a short or long stay in Agra I definitely recommend Hotel Taj Resorts. A modern and pleasant hotel but still with an Indian feel.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a window on one of the higher floors

This hotel has been a perfect place where to spend the time in Agra.
Everyone spoke perfectly english and communication was quick and efficient.
The check in required only few minutes and our room was ready and clean before our arrival.
Laudry service and mini bar were available and we found a wellcome box with water and fruit! Restaunt served us delicious food and the waiter was very entertaining. There was a pool outside (but it was to cold to use it) and a beatiful terrace.
In general the service has been impecable and considering the price this has been a very good deal.
I highly ecommend this hotel

Definitely the best hotel of the whole trip in india. Slightly higher price than other hotels visited but the difference is justified by the quality of the structure. Very nicely decorated, staff very helpful and qualified. Well-appointed rooms and working with a very clean bathroom and hot water and good pressure. Minibar very cheap restaurant with excellent cuisine and a buffet breakfast. One flaw is found that the thermostat did not seem to work, but the room was not cold at all as happened instead in another nearby location. I highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

I think this hotel is excellent for visiting the Taj Mahal. I was very very pleased with our choice.
I thought it was fantastic value and they even picked us up for free from Agra Cantt train station, which was a really nice touch.
It is located about 1 km from the Eastern gate of the Taj Mahal and right by the ticket office. (You need to buy a ticket before heading to the actual gate and by the ticket counter you can also collect your free water and shoe covers to enter the mausoleum.)
Although I had specifically asked in my booking to NOT have a basement room (following the reviews on tripadvisor), we were given one. The room was a bit dark and lacked a proper window, but it was actually fine and we didn’t complain.
The hotel is very basic, but it has a safe, hot water, towels, etc. The restaurant is actually really good – breakfast is very varied and their navratan korma (a fruit curry cooked with khoya and cashew gravy) and chicken kaliya in a spicy and black pepper curry were particularly delicious.
Being in such close proximity to one of the gates meant that one morning we could be the first ones into the Taj mahal for our second visit (the gate opens at 7) and then return to the hotel for breakfast before exploring some more.
The staff were very courteous and the management went out of their way to help us investigate the scale of the delay of our train the night before we were due to leave. One of the managers even taught us how to track the delay of the trains on the Indian Rail website and helped us investigate other options to reach our next destination, Jaipur.
I would definitely recommend it.

Not worth the 3500 rupees a night.

Likes:
Very clean rooms. Good water pressure. Good security. Close to the Taj Mahal.

Dislikes:
Wifi gets to one bar at best of times and is not consistently available. Trying to catch a bit of tv before bed was frustrating due to the poor reception. Air conditioning only has a cool option so no heating for winter months. Staff are not friendly or very helpful partly due to the language barrier and also partly due to poor service.

Tips: auto rickshaw to Agra fort station cost is 50-60 rupees depending on driver. To Agra cantt station 100. The hotel wanted to charge us 1800 for a taxi to fatephur sikri. A taxi from Agra cantt station cost us 1100 total including all taxes, tolls, parking in a non ac car. This took quite a bit of haggling though. Most were happy to take our business for 1200. Area does not look/feel too safe after sunset. Our driver took us to a "government operated" tour guide outside of the palace area and this cost is an extra 550 for two people. They said it is not possible for the public traffic to drive through which seems true as they have buses which operate taking you from where the public traffic area stops. Though, after arriving to the palace it was evident that our tour guide must have been a tout'er. He was knowledgeable but we paid a premium for it.

This hotel is perfectly located for visiting Taj Mahal(early morning). Our check in was smooth and the front desk staff was quiet helpful.
Room had a western look which was clean and have comfortable bed.It had TV(LCD),coffee pot, mini-fridge stuffed with snacks and drinks etc.Bathroom was also clean with hot water running.
We had a dinner on rooftop restaurant which had quite elegant ambiance with classical music, delicious food and very attentive staff.
The morning breakfast was good and we check-out in the morning.
Overall we had a great experience and surely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Stayed in Lower floor room and it turned out great.
