Agra - Regal Vista, A Sterling Holidays Resort

I stayed at this hotel while on a tour and di not choose it myself. The location was a bit out of the way and the low-rise hotel has an imposing white marble entrance area. Immediately outside the hotel grounds was a grotty wasteland occupied mainly by rubbish and cows. There was a dead dog in the road immediately opposite the hotel entrance.
The hotel interior is mostly white marble inlaid wIth semi-precious stones including the rooms.
I had a twin room with views over the rubbish dump next door (it was best to keep the curtains closed for a better impression). There was a flat screen TV and kettle in the room. A hair dryer was brought to my room on request.
The bedding was clean but the towels were not. The room was a bit dusty and the bathroom could have done with some elbow grease or bleach.
The food was the ubiquitous buffet variety and plenty of choice for dinner and breakfast. There was also internet available but I didn't try it.
The electrIc and plumbing was modern and all worked. There was an odd room layout with a clear window (with dirty roller blind) between bathroom and the room.
Service could have been better - no staff were willing to carry baggage for example. Housekeeping staff were noisy in the corridor. Security appeared to be good.
If I ever return to Agra I am sure I'd find a better hotel. Having said that, it was far better than the Bhoomi where I stayed the previous night.

We were stuck in Agra during a last minute weekend - and didn't realize it was the busiest weekend of the year. We were left without accommodation and Siddharth Dey - Raj Mahal Hotel Director - came to the rescue and found us a room. The staff are incredibly professional and friendly, the food is awesome, view of the Taj from the roof, best foot massages, quiet rooms, comfy mattresses (not easy to find in India...) - we loved this place and would come back. And the auto-rickshaw drivers out front are the best - it was so sweet to watch them taking care of a litter of puppies - good guys. We highly recommend this place!

Secure, quiet, clean and friendly. The standard exceeded my expectations. Friendly helpful staff. This hotel would sit anywhere in the world and still shine for the quality of product offered here. The food everything made for a great place to rest and sleep.

We stayed here for one night while we visited the Taj. It is not our first visit to Agra but the first to this hotel. On arrival they had no booking for us despite the fact that we booked and had a confirmation. Once in the room there was no hot water for the bath and shower, after ringing reception they told us they would have to turn on the boiler !!!
The is no bar despite the website saying there was and the restaurant has a very limited menu.
Our room was clean and comfortable although it only has the very basic aminities. My mother had the room next to ours and the next morning said she had found a beetle/bug in her bed when she pulled the sheet back and her shower was grimy.

It turned out to be expensive and not worth the price.

It is the best hotel among all hotels where we stay in India.
The hotel is very new and all facilities are good. The room is modern with Taj Mahal flavor. Staff and managers are helpful and proffesional. Food is delicious and price is reasonable ( one Thali can be shared by two persons).
We use their pickup service in midnight from Tundla railway station. The car is new and very comfortable, far better than other taxi, and driver is reliable too.

We stated at the Rajmahal for one night with two small children (3 and 7 years old). We used the hotel to visit the Taj Mahal and various other usual tourist locations in Agra. The hotel is considered to be "five star" with amenities found in typical European hotels and a pool. We booked a standard room with two single beds and opted for an additional roll away bed.

The interior of the rooms was nice, modern in style, much like you would find in Europe. There was a flat screen TV. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was standard western style with a granite countertop and updated fixtures. The AC worked extremely well, which is important in the summer. The room was clean. Breakfast was included in the room rates and was good.

The hotel though did not live up to our expectations. As confirmed in another review, the views from either side of the hotel are dismal. Essentially empty, garbage filled fields.

Indeed the hotel does have a pool, but to put it simply it was filthy. Our child, who was dying to go to the pool, even refused to get in. The hotel shouldn't advertise having a pool if it is not kept in a sanitary condition. It is misleading.

Another great annoyance is the "hot water." When I took a shower, there was no hot water but I didn't mind since it was rather hot outside. My spouse wanted to take a nice hot shower after a long day. The first call to the front desk the response was, "Well, did you ask us to turn it on?" Of course we didn't, as there is no way to know that we should call the front desk for hot water. I figured they must have a little hot water heater for each room, as is the case in some hotels. No in fact they just have one heater and it was turned off for all the guests! Additionally, it took 20 minutes and several more calls to actually get the hot water to come out of the tap. Finally it required (this was done by the hotel staff) opening the hot water taps on the shower and sink, letting them run for about 8 minutes (wasting an incredible amount of water). Our parents in the adjoining room did this trick but were not able to get any hot water at all. It's not acceptable to have to call maintenance to get hot water (at a minimum they should explain the procedure).

The extra bed price was quite expensive, though the hotel was willing to negotiate a little. In most countries we have visited an extra bed is provided at no charge but here it was a substantial additional cost (close to 1/3 the room price). Charging for the extra bed seems common in India but for foreign tourists, it is definitely annoying.

The hotel staff was attentive, especially in setting up the extra bed, serving breakfast, and trying to solve the water problem. They fell far short though in dealing with the core problems during checkout, not offering even an apology for the lack of hot water or filthy pool, let alone a partial refund which would have been appropriate.

Overall, the hotel has some positives. For the price it may be a good value. There are several negatives as well. I would rate this as a 3 star hotel elsewhere in the world (assuming the pool and hot water were functioning). We did not see other top hotels in Agra but suspect there are many others which are better for this price.
