If you have a little money to spend, but still like to get every bit of your money's worth look no further;
The Mughal Room is set in the top floor of an old luxury hotel, which frankly doesn't look like much.
But the restaurant's room on the top floor is beautifully decorated; it creates an intimate atmosphere with its colours, Mughal theme, dimmed lights.
The ghazals being performed, live, by a rather talented trio;
And the food!
Don't be fooled: this is a primarily Indian restaurant, with some "continental" i.e. Western options.
Usually I like purist restaurants which make no concessions of this kind; however I must admit that in a city like Agra where I haven't found it easy to get good quality western food at affordable prices, it is actually very convenient.
But the Mughal cuisine is really why you should come here.
Two people dinner: soup, rogan Josh (must try), grilled fish, two soft drinks and two ice cream desserts came to Rs. 2700; not bad.
Service was friendly, unobtrusive, competent.
If you can't go to the Oberoi everyday, but still want good food and a nice room to eat it in, this spot is for you.
