“Great Restaurant .... not worth staying”
Reviewed October 10, 2009

We stayed in tempest most expensive of the rooms and what a waste of money.

Phone in the corridor rings non stop. 8 staff have 3 meetings in a day..

most of the time you may have to walk up to the so called front desk and order food or ask for room service.

Fireplace which doesnt work. not so insulated cold rooms.

dont waste a penny on this hotel. great restaurant and fine dining.

We stayed at this Hotel to celebrate our first anniversary and were extremely happy with our choice. The entire hotel has an incredible charm about it. It has a period air to it from the rooms to the restaurant and the beautifully manicured gardens. We would recommend the Deluxe rooms where we stayed as they have the most incredible view. We also commend the service that went out of the way to make our stay comfortable and memorable. Perhaps they could add more activities to the hotel. We were informed that there is a farmstay associated with this property where one could do horse riding fishing etc but we were happy to just enjoy the feeling off chilling out at the unique place

When I first arrived I thought I had made a bit of a boo boo, as it all seemed a bit tatty and worn. However, this place grows on you very quickly. The views over the hills from the hotel grounds (and from the rooms of the poshest rooms) are fabulous, and being a couple of kilometres out of town makes this very quiet and cosy, especially in the evening when all the wood features and open fires make you feel like you are back in colonial times! The food is excellent - there seem to be a lot of people who go there just to eat - and for breakfast there are people waiting for you to order omelettes and pancakes so they can cook them in front of you. There were a few issues with our room when we arrived, but these were solved swiftly and without fuss. Just remember to take warm clothes - it does get quite cold at night!

My family stayed here in early July 2009 for 3 nights.

I seriously think this place is over rated in Trip advisor. Rooms are not very clean , I understand they are from some 1920s but it can be lot clearer. It seemed that the curtains were not washed since 1920 :). This place can be lot better than what we found.

We paid some odd 3000 bucks a day -- I would not exactly call it value for money.

But all is not bad:

- They have amazing break fast - espeaciily in their glass room restaurant.
- Service is pretty good
- Well maintained garden

We stayed here for 2 nights and had a great time. The staff was attentive, the rooms were clean and well equipped and the food was great, albeit a little overpriced. Breakfast is served in a quaint greenhouse and is quite sumptuous. We also used the taxi service offered by the hotel and the drivers were friendly, courteous and really interested in showing us their home town.
It does get a little chilly at night. Make sure to have the staff leave some extra firewood in your room

Wonderful resort experience! This in essence sums up by stay in this resort for two nights.
The resort is located on strawberry hill, Havelock road. Approaching Ooty from Mysore road, took a left before Charing Cross at the big lamppost circle. There are many resorts on this hill like willow hill, Howard Johnson etc. At the gate there is a blue insignia of the resort.
The first look of the resort gives the impression of a Victorian era home. There are many photos/sketches in the resort which depict the history of the place. Read them at leisure.
There is a fireplace in the drawing room and in every room. The rooms are named after Shakespeare’s works [Othello, Hamlet etc]. The flooring is fully wooden. Lot of good quality wood has been used in the room. Rooms are well maintained and service is good.
The resort is very well maintained. They maintain a green lawn and also beautiful flowers outside the rooms. Saw the same flowers in the Ooty botanical gardens. From the lawn one can get a very good view of the town below.
The dining rooms are neat and the service is good. They also have a candle lit glass house dinner space in the night.
Dinner is A-la-carte while breakfast is a buffet spread. Both were satisfying.
The surprise package was the live music band, by two young boys, played every evening during dinner time. This was a very unique and wonderful experience. They play some very good English songs.
The resort runs a taxi service offering full day/ half day Ooty tour packages. The cab driver that I went with was a very nice man. A half day tour costs 800 bucks. They also will wash/clean your car on request.
Their senior staff came every evening checking our well being and distributed mint chocolates!
The only major hitch I had was that I had to pay 500 bucks extra per night for my 7 yr old child. The package price was for 2 adults only. This was not communicated earlier when the package was sold to me. Other irritants I experienced was that the room service refused to serve bed tea due to non-availability of milk and that the doors to the bathrooms were of low height.
Apart from these the family did not have anything to complain about.
Overall good value for money. I would recommend this place instead of any hotel in the center of the Ooty.

Last year I had this weekend trip to Ooty, when I stayed at this hotel. After my visit, I can surely say that the hotel stay was best part of the Ooty trip because the city was crowded with tourists but this location is totally peaceful and relaxing.
This is a colonial bungalow with all modern facilities in each room, so that you continue to feel like king during your stay. I particularly enjoyed my drink on the rocks in front of my fireplace, while my friend enjoyed candle lit hot water bath tub with his favorite book. The food served to us was pretty good, but i feel it can be improved little bit more. The staff was very courteous and they arranged for horse ride in tea gardens.
Morning and Evening here is especially enchanting because of clouds filled in garden area. You can have sip of tea in this garden while looking at city in the valley filled with clouds.
I would recommend this to people who are looking for luxury and peace.
