“Don't eat at the restaurant”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

The food was okay, as long as you ordered Indian food. Their attempt at continental fare was disappointing. The service was EXTREMELY slow and unresponsive. They couldn't even bring water within 15 minutes of asking for refills. And, it didn't help that it was cold and uncomfortable in the dining area, although there's probably not much they can do about that. Nice view outside, but I wouldn't go back.

Hotel is little way from the main city , located in nice ,calm and beautiful location. Hotel staff are very polite. Rooms are really well maintained. And the food was really awesome.
Got fire place experience for the first time. Had a very nice stay.

A very charming place, full of colonial heritage. The service is very good, the food is excellent, and the fireplace is particularly enjoyable, especially during the monsoon season !

If Royalty did indeed decide to spend a weekend over looking a cliff, they'd do well to stay at the this property. And if Royalty does not come visiting, they make their guests feel like one. May be that's why its called the Kings Cliff? Without exaggerating, the place oozes character, hospitality and the warmth and like most of Ooty, it's all so natural.

The property is a refurbished bungalow, refurnished just to the extent required; maintaining all the old world charm while being careful not to compromise on any of the modern day comforts. The rooms are cozy and snug and come with their fire places. The fire does little to keep you warm but still!

The property has a charming little Green House {a simple but elegant glass enclave that does well to lock up some morning warmth) that is used for the morning Breakfast Buffet - the quality of food is great to say the least - you are fed an appetizing spread North Indian/South Indian and Continental (cereals, breads, Meat, Juices). Just the perfect start to a day of lazing round or hiking. They probably have the best restaurant in all off Ooty "Earl's Court". The quality of Continental and Chinese fare on offer and taste was splendid!

The staff are only too polite and helpful - given that they are not recruited from any of the hospitality institutes its speaks volumes of the efforts taken by the management in training them. The General Manager Mr. Nazrul is a fantastic host (and person) and does not hesitate in going out of the way in making the guests as comfortable as possible. A special mention of our genteel housekeeping staff Mr.Shekhar would be appropriate - no request was too much for him!

If you are looking for a weekend of calm, solitude, fresh air, lazing around, good food and hospitality - may be you should look no further. While I had the opportunity to stay at one of the other properties of the same group, I thought this was better than the other! (Sherlock)

If you (like me) have a problem with diesel fumes and are travelling to Ooty to take the equanimity in you might do well to explore the Trails around the property. The center of the town is walk able distance.

Lastly, come here if you're game for an earthy-heritage experience. It's luxury for sure, just of another kind.

Room Tip: They have an executive room next to the Kitchen which is as good as the other rooms but a lot cheape...

only 9 rooms so usually packed.strictly for people who love history and attached heritage value.Really quite and a beautiful garden.A few kms away from the main garden and crowded mall road.just a few metres away from King's cliff is the monarch hotel.Dont expect the luxury for the price you pay, i guess it all goes into maintaining the old structure.rooms are big in size but bathrooms will need some work sooner than later.if you like to check other heritage hotels then taj savoy, super costly fern hill palace and there is one b & b on the same road as savoy. Villa residency run by ITC is closed for renovation

Room Tip: garden facing rooms have the best view

We stayed five nights in the annexe, which was adequate, except for the limited availability of power, and hot water and electrictity.
Requests were frequently ignored to turn the hot water on ,which was frustrating.
The food was reasonable, but slow, and often arrived coldish when room service ordered.
Some staff need further training in politeness !
Management are mean with supplies of toileteries, toilet paper firewood etc, replacing one item once a day.
Throughout our stay the builders were working constantly, directly outside our room, and even sanding down the walls, and painting the windows while we occupied the room.
Piles of builders rubble , and open sewars were in the middle of the footpath to our room.No-one cared !
All the outside chairs and tables were painted at once , so there was no where to sit and relax at all - the chairs and tables were even taken away at one point.
Management didn't seem concerned with guests staying in the annexe, nor made any effort to enhance our stay, due to the inconvenience - Simply couldn't care less.It was as if we wern't part of the hotel guest list.
Shekka the night porter is the best, and nicest member of staff, who takes a real interest in the guests.
The views are nice if you can find somewhere to sit and enjoy them, but not with a drink, as this hotel is "dry".

Room Tip: The annexe/conservatory was a good sized room, although cold and bathroom dingy. Glazed conservator...

Set in a tucked away corner of Ootacamund (Udhagamangalam!), away from the honking and hustle of the average city-goer, King's Cliff still lives in a splendour of the British colonial life. A fabulously built bungalow with sprawling lawns and a lovely garden, King's Cliff comes across as a pearl in the Nilgiris. Food is above the average; Dining is not elaborate - the erstwhile dining room and an annexe suffice to cater to indoor diners including resident guests. A crooner (and the old man is quite good with his guitar) is an added extra not available in other such accommodation.

Room Tip: Rooms towards the open lawn on left (south) are warmer in winter. The rooms on the far side can be q...
