“Take the trip only for the upper Bavani lake”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2014 via mobile

The roads inside the sanctuary are horrible so prepare for a backbreaking ride. The people who work in the sanctuary including the driver of the bus claim to have seen wild animals such as tigers, panthers, bears but unfortunately no such animals were sighted during the trip. Only monkeys were seen. The only reason one should take this journey is to wee the upper Bavani lake. No animals waste money and time if u want to. This place is about 20 to 25km from ooty town. Hence you'd be wasting almost half the day visiting the place. It is just an attraction gimmick.

My trip to visit the avalanche wasn't completely fruitful. Well, it means i got a glimpse of the avalanche when traveling to reach the main destination.
The moment I was heading more towards the depth of the jungle I realized that there must be quite a few people around the main area - near the water. When we reached the point there were at least about 200 people to board a van for the trip inside the avalanche reserve area.
There's a big Van that could accommodate about 25-30 people in one trip and a Jeep that you can hire for 1200 ( max PAX 8).
Unfortunately it was a Saturday the place was over crowded. The ticket selling is different, you must give your name ( n the number of tickets needed) as soon as you reach there and wait for them to call your name. Once the Van returns - people at the ticket counter start shouting your name and then you can pay and then collect your tickets. It was chaotic. We had to wait from 12:00 till 2:30 to get on to the next trip not only for the van but also the jeep( every trip has a gap of 2:30 hrs) .
Ride through the forest to reach the place was also good and did get some glimpse of the lake below.
It is beautiful.
They also have a beautiful forest guest house - taken care by the Tamil-Nadu forest dept.
If you wish to visit there please call the forest dept , if possible give your name confirm the timings of the tour and then visit.
Its all worth it, even if you don't spot any animals.

“Scenic views and unspoiled nature”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2014

The drive from Ooty town to Avalanche sanctuary is a very pleasant one. Decent road and hardly any traffic. The place is well maintained and they take care to avoid plastic etc. We took the seats in the mini bus to avoid the jeep cost, and realised this was the better way, because there is only one road to and from the starting point without any off roading as one would expect from a "Jeep Safari". The mini-buses are also quite frequent and we only had to wait about 10 mins. in the bus before there was a full load. The views are quite good, and overall a good experience.

“bad roads, no animals, but majestic view of upper bhavani lake...”

The roads inside the jungle is very bad so gear up for a jumpy ride. Also, no animals will be viewed but the destination of upper bhavani lake is worth taking the pain....

I went here with my friend in april 2014 and we both hired a bike from ooty and drove to this place to catch the 10 am bus thats organized by the Govt..there are buses once every 2 hours and it takes 150 for a ride per person on the bus... there are safari cars as well, but i think you need 8 people for a safari car... We drove from ooty town to avalanche in the morning,,and reached in an hour by bike..:)... the scenery on the journey was breathtaking!! ... we crossed the emerald lake. i can only say the journey was great to reach avalanche ..avalanche lake is as scenic as the pangong lake in ladakh.. :)
