“Over-rated”
Reviewed May 12, 2014 via mobile

For wildlife enthusiasts & the well-travelled, you wouldn't miss much if you couldn't make it here. This is about 25kms away from Ooty town.Taking a taxi up & down itself would cost u Rs1500, 1600 if u book via the hotel reception desks.
The lake & the greenery is not worth the effort you taking in getting there & waiting in the queue.
Advisable to carry food, water,an umbrella since it gets overcast pretty quickly. There are restrictions on the number of vehicles inside the park.Hence, you may have to wait till almost lunchtime or later before you get to enter the park.
Consider yourself lucky if you spot animals.
Quite disappointing!!

“Just for the scenery”
Reviewed May 12, 2014

We visited this place in beginning of May 2014. It is about one hour drive from ooty. We left early in the morning and the drive to the sanctuary was so scenic that we wanted to just drive on and on. We reached the forest safari start point at about 8.30 am and then were told that the safari starts at 10.30 am. The toilet facilities are not good. Anyways the safari started on time. The first view point was the very scenic Avalanche lake that is very near the safari start point. We had further stops at Cauliflower shola forest, Bhavani temple and Upper Bhavani backwaters. The area has not received any rain for 1 and 1/2 years and so the forest may seem a bit dry but a forest is a forest and it has its own charm. The safari is for 2 hours and no food is available nearby. So if you have kids or elders make sure to stock up on food. Chances of seeing wild animals is very minimum but go for the safari for the scenic views. Please note that in view of the huge crowds during season time try to catch the first safari trip.

“Avalanche..... the place to be”
Reviewed May 11, 2014

If you have the time and love nature, it is the place to be. Located about 90 mins away from Ooty, you got to obtain permission from the DFO Office Ooty to go inside the reserved area. Another 19 Km from the Forest Camp is the Lake. Enroute is the forest called 'Cauliflower Forest'. All these are wonderful- I am adding photos too. In case you have the time, start from Ooty at 12, drive straight to the lake, on the way down walk some distance to enjoy nature and spend the night in the Camp, basic facilities including food are available (booking by DFO Office Ooty). In case you do not get a booking, start BEFORE 10 to be able to get back.

“The Best part of Ooty”
Reviewed April 30, 2014

Far from the usual crowded areas in the heart of ooty a place must too visit. Just for the view and the pristine atmosphere. That is avalanche.
