we traveled to and fro from Ooty to Munnar. just like it !!!

The stations itself are so cute very unlike standard railway stations.
Folks associated with the railways are very courteous .

Its really great to travel via train and views are great only issue is with ticket. Its railway system and they can manage better by increasing train compartment or make ticket buying process little easier. Its all long queue process which does not even insure that you can travel in whole day!!!

Returning by bus was also quite good experience and less hectic than train.

Before when we visit we use to take to mountain train. But sadly now-a days the system is inept with a lot of mechanical problems and poor upkeep.Wish the train will be restored to all its pristine beauty soon.

Everyone must have this experience. The breathtaking scenery unfolds before our eyes giving a new scene at every turn. As the train trundles along deep gorges with rivers rushing past we seem to be suspended in air , its an amazing feeling. The majestic mountains, the profusion of morning glories blooming in gay abandon, the sudden waves of colourful lantanas with their varied hues beckon us. The howling children as we pass thr the tunnels gives a spirit of adventure. The monkeys trying to snatch our bags as we got down at some stations to take photos and have tea. All in all an awesome ride.

Visited Ooty railway station only to see the train on 30/4/14. Owing to short duration of the visit, I could not take the train to Coonoor. Nevertheless, a glimpse of the toy train is worth the trouble. I was slightly disappointed when I learned that they have retired the steam engine and are using diesel engine instead. Nevertheless, the coaches are still vintage and are bolted from the outside by the train conductor. People wanting to take the train ride are required to stand in a line just before the train arrival. The tickets are issued on spot. Although some coaches were marked 'reserved', I have no idea how to get a reservation. Most of the travellers were tourists and not locals (perhaps due to Coonoor having decent road connectivity from Ooty).

Tourist planning to visit the station are advised to check the train arrival timings. The one I saw arrived at 5:45 PM and its return trip to Coonoor was the last trip of the day. A 30 minute visit to the railway station (which is also very near to other Ooty attractions) will definitely make you nostalgic.
